Subject: What sub to use... IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 Quad Cab. I just recently put in 4 6 1/2" Pioneer 4-way TS-A1680R speakers in the door. I would like to put a sub in, but i don't want a 12". I want something that sounds good. Does anyone know a good make of an 8 or 10" and what type of box to get. I would only like to put one sub in, if possible. Also, what type of amp is best to get as well. E-mail me at NicIsKewl@aol.com with any suggestions. Thanks.

Message: Well i'm looking for an 8" box sub. I got blue prints from a guy that built his own box which the sub is sqare. I don't want something all that big because i don't want to take away the ability to move the back seats up and down.
rhlam96- the Kicker sounds good, but i don't know if it will fit for what i am looking for. I'll show you what i mean about the box later. Thanks.

Message: Okay if you go to this guy's website
http://www.blueoceanpress.com/~storage/truck/index.html
and click on the sub, that will show you the box i want to build. I need to find a sub that will fit that box. He used a Kicker Solarbaric 8" L5. He also said any .5 cubic ft. enclosure would work. Does anyone have something similar to this or something that would work? Also, what kind of amp should i use power wise.

Message: NicIsKewl - the seats still fold up in my design. Keep in mind as they fold up they move back, thus the box does not get in the way at all. I have a CD Changer under the drivers side rear seat and the jack is still under the passenger side seat - so I had to make sure the seats would still fold up. That one of the reason I made a center console box and not one that fit behind the seats in fact.
As I said any sub that works in a .5 cu ft sealed box will work, look into JL, MTX... whatever if you don't want the Kicker. Then give the sub as much power as it calls for. There is nothing worst then an underpowered sub... mine is about 70 watts short and you can tell. One of these days I'll get a bigger amp, but for now it does the job just fine for the $ I spent.

Message: I would get an amp that push about 50 watts more than the what the sub rquired. I have a JL audio 250/1 pushing my kicker comp VR and the sub handles it nicely. WIth gains kept down low you arent going to blow your sub and besides you are getting a clean 250 watts. But whatever you do make sure you get a quailty amp not a cheap one.

Message: Well the Sub is like 300 watts. So should i get a 300 watt amp, or a 350? I'm not sure what brands are pretty decent to get.

Message: I would get a 350 or more but thats me.I wish I woudl have neevr sold my Jl 500/1 thats was a sweet amp. I woudl have used that to push my 8 instead with. You can always go to a good auido shop and ask what thy recommend to use. For brands I like JL Audio and kenwood.I am very happy wit hmy kenwood deck and amp pusing my componets but everyboy will say different. I my friend has a rockford fosgate 200s pusing a kicker 8 also in q-logic box for her explorer and is happy and it is the bottom of the line of kickers. Just shop around and and keep asking questions.
