Subject: Alternator whine IP: Logged
Message: I replaced my stock radio with a new Pioneer head and an XM receiver. I now have a very annoying whine that is tied to the engine\alternator speed.
I am assuming it is coming from the amplifier in the passenger door as I can turn the volume on the head Down all the way and still hear it clearly.
I did put filters on the 2 hot leads to the head and it made little difference. Before I start taking the door apart, is there anything else I should try and if I take the door panels off, what’s the best way to get rid of this noise?
Thanks

Message: I missed the post below regarding the same problem. Does it make sense to just bypass the amp and go to the speakers direct? I would prefer not to do that. I have checked grounds with a meter and all appear ok(have not checked amp but had not ever touched it)

Thanks

Message: Just make sure it is grounded to bare metal...I grounded my amp to the seat bolt by scraping all of the paint off of the bolt and using a star washer to have good connection on both the washer side and bolt side.

Message: You may want to re-think that, as the remote lead from the pioneer cd player is a positive lead and grounding it will make it impossible to use your radio

Message: Thanks for the feedback. I solved the problem by selling the truck and getting a 2003 CC 4.7.
