Subject: Rigging a switch to turn amp on and off? IP: Logged
Message: Hey
I was wondering what would be required to hook up a switch on my dash to turn my amp/subs on or off. Reason is that other people in my family sometimes drive my car and dont like heavy bass with all songs. So what would i have to connect to the amp and run to the switch?

Message: That is easy!!!! Just get you a switch and hook it up to your remote wire and there you go. If your remote wire doesnt send juice to the amp then it will never come on. Hope that helps.

Message: Go to the auto parts store and buy a switch, cut the remote wire, plug the radio end of the remote wire into one side of the switch and plug the amp end into the other side. Now the amp will only come on when the switch is "on" and the radio is on. Just get a simple, non-lighted toggle switch, it should have only two places to make connections.

Message: Are you serious? You don't know how to wire a simple one way switch?? There's an input and an output, hell you can even wire it backwards and it will work.

Message: Best thing to really do is spend the money & buy a equalizer with sub controls built into it that way you can just turn the subs off.

Message: heyy iv just connected a rocker switch between the amp and the audio player. works very nicely.
like you no ur not supposed to listen to music with the sub connected whilst the car ignition is on, because it drains the battery.
I can listen to music for about 5mins, and then the battery finds it hard to start up.
with the switch connected, is it possible for me to listen to music while the ignition is on (and bass switched off) without causing the battery to get flat???
thanks
vik

Message: vik, yes the battery will last much longer without a sub amp being on. Your cd player while playing draws less than 20 amps where as an amp can be between 30-400 depending on the amp.
