Subject: Pioneer DEH-P47DH in an '01? IP: Logged
Message: I just bout the above mentioned 1 1/2 DIN head unit for my 2001 CC Dakota. Has anybody else put this in their truck? Specifically I am looking for people who have put it in a 01 because I have been told it won't fit there because of the rounded edges the 01 has. The Pioneer has square edges. Any pics suggestions would really be appreciated!

Message: D,
I have just a couple more questions for you.
1. Did you do the install yourself? If so, I assume you had to buy the wiring harness to take the factory 2 plug setup and make it fit the one plug on the back of the Pioneer.
2. When I pulled the dash off this weekend and set the Pioneer in the opening and put the dash back on, the thing fit, but there was some gap around the square front and dash. It is not like you can see through the gaps as the stereo has a sqaure holder that fits behind the dash. Do you have a plastic insert to fill that gap or did you just leave it? If I can possibly use this CD player I will. Thanks!

Message: you need to buy the wiring harness, and the
plastic piece that frames the head unit (fills in
the excess on the two sides) I had it installed
professionally for about 75.00 (including
harnes and installation kit) If you live in
California, I highly recommend Al and Eds
autosound, they have done both of my trucks,
and will replace the stock stereo for free if you
ever sell your truck.
Good luck.

Message: D,
Sorry to have to do this, but I have another question for you! I called crutchfield the other day and they told me that there was no plastic filler piece for the 1 1/2 DIN units for the 2001 because of the rounded edges the 01 has. Did the installers you had do the job have that in stock? Unfortunately, I live across the country from where you are so I can't use the same guys. Thanks again.

Message: I called the stereo shop, and here are the part
numbers they used...They said the
manufacturer of the harness and installation
kit is called "Metra"
the installation kit you need is a
--Metra #996503
the wiring harness you need is
--Metra #701817
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Message: I think I am going to have to send the stereo back. I talked to two guys at Metra and they said that the installation kit mentioned above won't work and that any 1 1/2 DIN unit will not fit in the '01 without cutting up the dash and custom work. It is not worth the trouble in my case. Thanks for any help!

Message: Blue,
The reason I am going to send it back, is I want to get my money back and I only have another week to do that. I don't want to hang on to it waiting for more info and not get it and be stuck with it not being able to get my money back. I will keep an eye out for information about it, but I have other things I can spend $200 on! Thanks!

Message: Yeah, I was really looking forward to having that stereo in my truck, but it wasn't meant to be. I am calling to get the return authorization number so I can send it back. I think I am now going to look for a CD changer that I can put under my back seat so I can keep my dash looking the same way and have the ability to play CDs and cassettes.

Message: I am taking pics, but my digital camera
broke...have to wait for regular film to develop.
Its kinda wierd that they said no DIN 1/2 will fit,
cause mine has about 1/16" gap at the
corners, where the square meets the round
corner. It fits perfect, believe me! I double
checked on those part numbers w/ the stereo
shop, and they are right. Sorry Bill, I saw your
post on an older thread and I never
responded, but it looks like other people have
the larger head units installed...hope you have
better luck next time around.

Message: I appreciate the help D. I got the return number yesterday and I think I will return it and instead get a CD changer that I can put under my back seat and keep the stock head unit in there and have the thing look right. Thanks for your help!
