What fiberglass do you use, where can you buy it and what hardener to use? I want to make a box for my 2 12's. I never made a box before.

I looked at some auto parts stores, and they had some fiberglass, but it was the square pieces, so I started looking on the internet and found some place (sorry, can't remember the website, but I'll look on the box tonight when I get home) that sells all sorts of fiberglass. I decided the best kind for this application would be a roll of 4" wide fiberglass. It worked out good because the 4" wide strips made it easy to go around corners. I went back to the auto parts store and got the resin and hardener, then went to wal-mart and got a bunch of cheap paint brushes and latex gloves, then the next day I went back to wal-mart and got a bunch more paint brushes, haha. I would sugest doing some fiberglass work as a test on something you can throw away just to get the hang of it, you have to work very fast, so make sure not to mix very much resin with hardener at a time. Let us know how it turns out.

I used 8.6oz glass and some resin/hardener my dad had left over from when he used to build remote control plane fusilages. You can get glass from a place like tap plastics or something like that. I calculated it to be over 200 for all the glass i needed. Went on ebay got it all for 62 bux shipped. Hope that helps. Take it easy

I was just about to mention about that. Marina places are great for scoreing some fiberglass junk. For the glass itself.... stick with the fiberglass matting. You shouldn't need anything like 120 or 180 boxweeve. You can pretty much score matting from anywhere like an auto store or Walmart. For a first timer..... I would also sudjest using a polymer type matrex with a long worklife. The matrix is the acuall gunk you impregnant in the matting. Polymer isn't as strong as some but it's alot easier to find and it will work for what you need it for. But most importantly get it with a long work life cause you'll want to play with it a tad longer than the "bondo resin". The pain about it is that it will take alot longer to cure up but if you got a space heater or a heat gun..... You can "force cure" your box to help speed it along. (@130degrees)

Lots of gloves ..... lots of brushes..... Lots of patience. Everything can be found at a hardware store or autopart store. Ebay might be better for the matt for a bulk buy.

Do you have any how-to on laying the fiberglass?
