Message: jon, I just finished building a custom enclosure for under the rear seats on my 00 CC Dakota. I got some ideas from the website Cole mentioned, only I went with putting one 10" sub under the smaller pass. side seat. And used the longer driver's side seat to make a tray to hold my two amps. One amp to push the sub and one to push my component speakers. I actually made the boxes separate for ease of installation because I am either; A) cutting and using the cup holder/change tray on each side of the stock tray to fill in that curved area or B) if that doesn't work making my own curved piece out of 1/2" duraply and adding cup holders. Since these will be added to the sides it will be much easier to install as two pieces as oppossed to one large box. Once in the truck the boxes will be tied together with wood screws and look like one box except for the one seem in front.
My seats were raised about 3 inches over stock, but I can still sit back there OK without hitting my head on the roof. I'm 5'7" @ 145. My kids will have no problem back there and neither will my rottweiller who rides back there with me to work on occasion.
I used 3/4" MDF board for the most part except for the top plate where the speaker is mounted, and the bottom of the tray that the amps mount to. For these I'm using some shiney alumn diamond plate that I had laying around the shop. Because the diamond plate is uneven, I'm using weather stripping around the speaker so that it seals well in the sealed box which has just under 1 cu ft. of space inside. The fronts of the boxes have a 1 and 1/2" tall by 14" long opening cut in them. Both will most likely have neon in them and these openings will allow the lights to shine through a little. On the speaker's side not only will this let the light shine through, but also let the sound from the sub flow. On the amp's side the opening will allow the amp's to "breathe" a little instead of being completely enclosed.
Sorry this is so long. Hope it helps a little. Oh, if your planning on retaining your seats in the back I don't think you'll be able to use a 12" sub, but then again I could be wrong. I can't post pics here, but if anyone wants to see what I've done let me know and I'll e-mail them to ya.

Message: some great ideas signman. i do have some specific ideas in mind. i think you just talked me into where im going to mount my amps and my sub. i have been considering my options for a sub, and i think i have already made up my mind about the single 10" sub. it is a small area so it should still pound.
i have 2 ppi art series amps, and like you i will be using the 4 channel 50x4 to run my interiors. i also have a 150x2 that i will run mono to power the sub.
i plan on removing the plastic piece that is there now, but thanks to your post i will rig it so i still have the cup holders. will look much better that way. i am going to try to leave the seats where they are and build the box to fit. the amps are going to be recessed enough that i will be able to put a few fans in there. i can turn the sub on and off with my head unit so i will just flip the seat up when i want to play it loud.
anyways, thanks for the post and thanks for the ideas. i hope yours sounds as well as i hope min is going to.
p.s. i tried emailing the guy from stealthboxes.com but it keeps getting returned.

Message: Your prob. going to have a tough time keeping the seats at the same height as stock because most 10" subs are going to need around 6" mounting depth (give or take a little) and about 1 cu. ft. of air space inside the sealed box in order to sound right. Using 3/4" thick MDF board all way around for the boxes makes it really hard to do. Once you take out that plastic factory base the seats are on, and see what's underneath, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I have decided to actually do away with the large factory spring loaded hinges that flip the seats up and toward the rear and am thinking of using reg. hinges and have the seats fold forward. I'm toying with the idea of using one piece of .080 alumn. for a top on the boxes and attaching both seats to it. This way when I go to fold my seats back to show someone my set-up... both seats flip up at the same time, thus exposing everything all mounted on that shiney alumn. diamond decking.
I carpeted both the boxes today and mounted the speaker. My amp should be in tomorrow and I may work on getting those cup holders attached to the sides like I talked about. Hopefully everything should be done in a couple days. I'll take a few pics and see if I can get my buddy to host 'em, then I'll post a link so you can check out what all I've done. Anyway... best of luck with the project, and like you said hopefully both of us will be blasting out some tunes soon!

Message: Hey Jon, I just saw your post. I am the guy from Stealthboxes.com. you should be able to email me at sales@stealthboxes.com right off the website. There isn't much space under there if you want to keep the seats stock. The total height you can get is 5 1/2" before having issues with the seats. That means if you use 1/2" MDF your top mount depth is only about 4 1/2". You could always angle the box from shorter in the rear to higher in front and get about another inch out of it. I think the angled box is going to be our new design for 04. If you have any questions just ask me or someone on here. The guys here are pretty sharp.
