Subject: Amp Location IP: Logged
Message: I'm seriously considering adding a amp to power my front and rear speakers. I have the proper hookups and all the wiring planned out, but I still don't have a clue where to put the amp. I've thought about a underdash, or under the seat location but I don't know. If any of you have done this I'd appreciate some input/advice. Thanks.

Message: I have an Ext. Cab SLT and mounted the amp as far under the drivers seat as I could. Due to the fact that the seat is at an angle, it only went about halfway in. I just make people use the passenger side to get in the back and I bought a cheap thin floormat to put over the amp, which is hardly noticeable anyway. Might be kind of in the open, but at least you can cover it and still have access to it at the same time.

Message: I'm running 3 amps...front and rear speaker amps (mtx 4202's) fit perfectly under the front seats and I can fit the sub amp (mtx 6500D) perfectly in the center console...I love the set up no one knows they are there...they go right along with the "hidden" subs in my thunderform

Message: Do you guys have any problem with them heating up too much? I think I burnt up my last amp for my 12s due to it being mounted on the drivers rear floor (in Xcab) and a mat had faller over the top of it. If this isnt possible please tell me cuz Id love to mount my new amp somewhere hidden and outa the way. Thanks

Message: the only time I ever have problems with overheating is when I'm drivin' to my cabin an hour and a half away with the music cranked the entire time...and when I say cranked I mean pushin' pretty close to max power...the internal amps under the seats get pretty frikin' hot and the sub amp in the center console clips out...so I just shut off the stereo blast the A/C under the seats for about ten minutes or so and I open up the center console and usually they are read to go again

Message: Yeah when I burnt mine out it had been running for over 4 hours playin loud! Thats how long it takes me to get from my apt. at near school to my parents home. So it being in the rear area behind my seat, pushed all the way back, cooked it off. A $400 amp. Toast. I have a smaller one now, but I still dont wanna toast it. Later guys...
