Subject: box questions (CC and general) IP: Logged
Message: ok.. I'm looking at some Infinity and some Eclipse subs and they give sizes for the boxes. I can figure out that sealed boxes means that there are no holes in it......but does the ported box mean it has the hole/vent in it?
And can someone describe how they differ for subs?
ALSO (sorry for all the questions, but this is the best place to ask...people with experience), will subs that require a 1.25 cubic inch sealed box fit in the stealthboxes for a CC cab...not just fit, but not blow due to room? (www.stealthboxes.com)

Message: Sealed is totally sealed - thus air tight! and ported has a special port or tunning vent - it's not just a hole. The size of vent is critical.
If you not familar with building boxes avoided any ported designs as they are complex and slight mistakes can throw off the tunning frequency, plus you could blow your subs.
Sealed boxes sound tighter and deeper. Ported boxes are louder but lose and thus kind of boomy. I suggest you listen to some installs to determine which you like.
How much air space is in the stealth box your looking at? If the subs require 1.25 cu ft that's how much the box needs to be. If your going sealed you can fudge the numbers by about 20% and might still be OK, if the box is too big you might blow the subs, but if it's too small the bass will not go very deep that's all.

Message: thanks alot. The stalthbox I am looking at so far has .7 cu ft.... when I order it I am going to request the box be a little bit wider(don't mind if it sticks out a little), ask that the tray not be so deep (as deep as a CD) and allow the sub chambers feed into the space under the tray more... that should give me at least 1 cu ft.....which is 20% of 1.25....so we'll hope its ok :)
