Subject: Quad Cab sub enclosure IP: Logged
Message: Just finished my quad cab sub enclosure that fits between the center console and the rear seats on the hump.
The dakota QC has very little space to work with so you have to be creative. There are many good ideas on here but i wanted to retain the full functionality of my rear seats. Putting a sub enclosure behind the rear seats is a good idea but your seats will not fold up to put cargo in the back. The enclosure between the two front seats is a very good idea but would dive me nuts have a sub blasting under my arm rest.
I decided to make an enclosure on the hump between the center console and the rear seats. A quick release speaker terminals allows you to remove the box to gain additional space with no problems.
Being that space was very limited I decided to used a kicker S8L5 subwoofer. The square design has almost as much surface area as a round 10' sub. More surface area more base. A little 3/4" mdf alot of bondo and a few coats of fiberglass in the enclosure and i was very happy with the results.
Kickers recomends .33-.75 cu ft of box space. With a little calculus the box ended up at .66cuft. Bondoed chicken wire to suspend some fiberglass for sound dampning. Here are some pictures.

I was very happy with the results. 300watts of RMS power to maximize the sub wattage and it definitely rattle my truck.

Message: Nice Job Brad!
I can see you paid a lot of attention to detail. I like the way it blends into the available space.
I have a center console sub box and don't mind it being there. Most people can't tell where the sound is coming from anyway, and there is very little vibration.

Message: Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Custom Speaker Enclosure
I would be willing to make these enclosures if there is a demand for it. The one in the pictures are specifically built for a 2001 dodge QC with a 40/20/40 split bench front seat. If the interior space is the same for the 2000 or 2002 then the enclosure will fit like a glove. I could make one specifically for the full center console QC but would take longer because I would have to locate someone with that option in the dodge and redesign the enclosure.
The current design allows full folding of both the rear seats and the center console. I can fabricate the enclosure in either grey or black. The black comes in either solid black or black with a tint of red or blue. The top part of the enclosure is vinyl with ¾” of headliner padding to match the vinyl on the front console.
The actual box is a sealed design made from ¾” MDF. The overall enclosure volume is around .65cuft and designed to hold a kicker 8” S8L5 or S8L7 square solobaric driver. Every joint included the speaker terminal in sealed with bondo. 3 applications of fiberglass resin was painted on the inside to ensure an absolute air tight enclosure and added strength to the overall structure. ½ the box is filled with fiberglass suspended by chicken wire to smooth out and deepen the low base response – recommended by Kicker.
The box will run around $150+shipping.
If you want the kicker S8L5 driver included it will be $250.
For the kicker S8L7 $320
