Subject: Removing Rear Speaker Panel in Club Cab.
IP: Logged

Message:
Even with proper instructions and a diagram I managed to fudge up my rear panels. I dismantled the truck interior to install door and rear 6 3/4 speakers, and although the front speakers went in more easily than I could have hoped for, The rears weren't so easy. The instructions from crutchfield indicated that you simply pry the top of the panel out, releasing the retaining clips from the upper wall. However there is a plastic hook near the bottom of the panel that is supposed to take the abuse of pulling the panel away to squeeze in a speaker. Needless to say that little plastic hook came out. After a hour of cussing and banging and bending I gave up and somehow got the panel back on securely enough so it doesnt move or rattle. But I still would like to go back there and fix it. Have any of you run into this problem? I could get more specific if necessary. Thanks.

Just had a thought about those rear speakers..

Why not cut the grille out, cut two small slots in the opening and fish out the stock speaker. Install the new one and attach the new grille directly to the side panel. Many aftermarket speakers have grilles that are rather large in comparison to the actual size of the speaker. It shouldn't be difficult to attach the grille to the side panel.

except for the fact that the interior panel sits a few inches away from the speaker... imo putting new grilles in would look SUPER DUPER tacky

Those panels really aren't that hard to remove. you need to unbolt the seatbelt brackets pull out the backrest against the back of the cab. There are also a couple of screws down near the cup holders. Just take your time and take a good look at everything.

Scott, have you personally removed those panels? I fished out the seat belts and removed the base cup holder screws. And it was still hellish.

Yeh, I had the same problem with mine. Took every screw out and still had to bend it to get it out and it turned white where the plastic bent. Pi$$ed me off!

Exactly! The plastic turned white, same kind of cheap plastic they make those BIC Lead pencils out of... you bend em.. they turn white in color and then SNAP!

Maybe I just got lucky. I didn't really have any problems. I had both sides out and replaced the speakers and had it all back together in about an hour.
