Subject: 02 Window Crank IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Regular cab 4x4 Dakota. I'm in the process of upgrading speakers & amps. I can't get the window cranks off!
I saw a mention of removing window cranks in another post but it didn't really answer my question.
Here's question 1 - I tried a crank removal tool and a fork (someone mentioned that worked for them) and can't seem to get the crank off. I think it's just me not operating the tools correctly or placing them in the right spot behind the crank. Any help would be great
Question 2 - A post mentioned the infinity Amp was in the passenger kick panel. I didn't find it, the invoice states that I have the Infinity system, so I know there should be an amp somewhere. Are there other locations the Infinity amp could be located. I tried tracing speaker wires, but went out of sight/feel before finding anything that felt like an amp.
Any help would be great -
Forrest

Message: if it's the same as my 99 I had a real b@#$h of a time finding the clip too the "universal clip remover" wasn't so universal...Keep poking in there and you'll see the clip u can use a flat head screwdriver if you got one long enough.. if it helps the clip is inside door panel reach in as close to the handle as you can....Believe me when I say I was ready the f____n rip the panel off cause I couldn't see it but one you find it you'll laugh when u see how easy it is.
Hope this helps.

Message: Forrest - I'm the one who mentioned the fork idea. I tried it with a screwdriver, but since those are straight, I couldn't get to the clip. When I take mine off, I try to push the door panel in as much as possible, and then you look right between the back of the crank, and the panel, you can see the little clip in there. It doesn't take much to unclip it, but watch out, cause sometimes they shoot off and end up 25ft away. Pain in the arse to find. When you re-install it, I've found that you can put the clip back in place on the handle before you slide it on the crank, and it will pop in place. Much easier than trying to clip it back on when it's already on the crank. Anyway, let me know if you have any problems.

Message: are u trying to put in a new hu? if so don't worry about that amp if you have your remote turn on wire just splice it on to the factory turn on. the only bad thing is about thing you can't really crank it up as loud as if you were to rewire the speakers.

Message: Found this diagram to help you out. Instead of the tool pictured, I made one by straightening out a large paper clip and bending a little hook on the end. Hook it over the loop on the retaining spring & yank it out.

Message: 98R/T:
I have a 2002 qc and I replaced the factory head unit and now I get a static sound when I crank it. It's a JVC 980 MP3 player. I have alpine components in the front and stock speakers in the back.. Should I re wire? I don't have the infinity system but I don't know what to do. I had this professionally installed. Maybe the amp in the deck is a crap quality and I'll probably end up getting an amp. Thanks

Message: You'll get better sound with an external amp. If you go with an external amp, you'll have to replace your rear speakers too if you amp them. I'm not an audio expert, but everytime I encounter static, something has usually been loose. Check all your wires/harnesses etc.
