I'm now in the final wiring stages and want to be certain that I'm connecting the head unit ground to the proper wire. I have a 2000 Dakota SLT with the factory cassette. There's a smaller connector with a black-green wire next to the larger grey and black factory connectors. Is that the ground?

Yes, on mine it had a connector and was on one of the tabs on the back of the factory unit...
