Message: Pyramid P8-300 first of all how old is this thing must be at least 15 years old ,any idea how much power this puts out,by the way only one channel works.
I'm driving 2 8" RFP-1808 punch subs(in seperate .4 cu' sealed boxs)it works pretty well for the price of 20$ 10years ago.
I need advice on a new amp,I'm audio ignorant so heres a few Q's
1)whats the diff between a bridged amp and mono?
2)is bridging just connecting 2 or more channels into one?
3)whats the deal with 2 ohm and 4 ohm? just how I hook up the amp?
4)if I only run the subs for lows is there any reason I shouldn't use a mono amp?
Heres the specs I don't know what they mean but they may help you guys.
nom. imped. 8
FS(Hz)32
RE (ohm)7.2
LE(mH)4
watts rms 200
watts peak 400
spl(dB@1w/1m)86
I'm willing to spend about $200

Answers:
1) A mono amp is only one channel and bridged amp is two channels combined into one.
2) yes... see answer #1
3) The ohms is the load of resistance the amp has to work against. Lower ohms is a harder load, if the amp can handle it then it should put out more power into that load. As far as speaker goes there is NO difference, just buy the right ohms to match up to your amps best output depending on wiring configuration (parallel vs series) and voices coils (single vs dual).
With your two 8 ohms subs best bet would be to run them in parallel (+ to + back to the amp, same with the - side) to an amp that runs 4 ohm mono. Chances are a bridge stereo amp will be the way to go as mono amps are normally set-up for a 2 ohm load to deliver max power.
4) The only problem with a mono amp is flexiblity in the future, basically all it will do is run a mono (single channel) thus it basically a sub amp only.

Message: Thanks JMII, I got a RF punch 401s, bridged, wired in parallel.
The new amp hit 10x harder than that Pyramid, there may be some blown subs now.
