Message: You've all probaly seen this question a thousand times.
I'm looking to replace the amp in my 01 dak, with a crossover and 6 channel amp, new speakers, etc., but I want to keep the factory head unit.
question #1, does the hu put out high of low level to the factory amp?
Question #2, does anyone have the wiring diagram of the wires in and out of the factory amp. I can figure out most of them by what connects to the hu and what connects to the speakers, but there are a few extra's I have no Idea what they are for.
I called over to the dealer and they say they don't have any good digrams of it.
HELP!!!!

High-level. amplified, roughly 7.5 volts RMS output.
"but there are a few extra's I have no Idea what they are for."
Well, the extras would be battery power, ground, and enable. I don't think there are any others connected.
Honestly, you're better off making a T-harness for behind the radio, and running new wires for the crossover. That'll save you a lot of trouble trying to decode the factory wiring, plus you won't have to cut off any connectors- making it easier to re-install the factory components should you decide to sell or trade the truck in later.

Message: oh, and one more thing about the head unit outputs. The head unit puts out a 7.5v RMS, _differential_ signal. Unless you have a crossover with high-level inputs (which I've never seen,) you _will_ need to use line-output convertors to convert the signal to ~2 volt RMS single-ended. running new wires will definitely be easier.

Message: Thanks a bunch. I already have the line-output converters just didn't know if I was gonna need them. Good idea about running new wires from the hu to the new crossover. I don't really want to hack the factory plugs off.
Thanks again
