It sounds like your sub is blown, hook it up to another stereo, and then you can isolate the problem. If it still pops, its probably your sub, if it stops, it must be something in your stereo.

Dak, I don't know if you mis-typed that or something, but if the sub is popping on his stereo, and it still pops on another stereo, then it's the sub. If it's your head unit that messed up, then the sub will work on another stereo.

Derek, sounds like your sub is shot, do you have a warranty or anything? You might be able to bring it back and have it replaced if you do, unless you bought it from a friend or something. Sorry to hear that, hope you get it fixed soon.

to me it doesn't sound like the sub is shot. how is your box sealed? is it s complete seal. something the size of a screw hole can make a sub sound like crap. and make that poping noise.

also check around the dustcap to be sure it is sealed down. easiest way is to take a pin and gently lift on the dustcap lip. I had an rockford due this and a little silicone around the edge of the dustcap fixed it. if you have warranty check there first as most companys will void your waranty for reparing a sub ooutside of factory. if not by a new sub or look for leaks.

pull the sub from the box and move the sub up and down by hand is it a smoothe motion? do you hear or feel the coils dragging anywhere? also it could be tinsel slap (the wires going from the terminals to the cv slapping the cone at excursion) this can easily be fixed by placeing a little square of foam under the wire leads.

bringing back an old thread...My sub does the same thing as described above but only at high volumes. The popping slowing fades in and continues to get worse the longer it is played. My sub is 650RMS and 1200MAX and my amp is 540RMS and 980MAX. I normally play it at half volume so it is hard to belive it is blown. I took it out and i can not see any visual things wrong. I have had it for about 6 months now, and it just started happening.
Please help

My home audio sub used to do that too. Your sub is omst likely blown. Again, try to hook it up something else. If it continues, it's blown. I'm sure it is though if your getting that popping noise. Sorry

I have seen this when the voice coil hits either the spider or the cone during excursion. This may also be caused when the speaker is misaligned. If this is the case, the speaker will still play but will make a mechanical sound from the coil rubbing the magnet. Usually when playing at low volumes you can press slightly on the cone and at a certain location the sound will dissapear (only while pressing). If this is your problem then make sure the spider is secure. They can sometimes be repaired by adjusting the spider on the coil or by propping up the cone to the correct alignment and leave it that way few a few days.

Subs Do NOT blow from to much power the most common problem associated with a sub blowing is it not having ENOUGH power when you run it at a low wattage it is much more susceptible to blowing, the poppin you hear may be because your box isnt properly sealed or the sub may be defective is it a Dual Voice Coal (DVC) then one of the coils may be defective, also check all of your connections beside that find someone else with a sub and try to connect it to your system and if it works throw your sub in the trash

I forgot to add in a couple important details, first of all it only starts to pop when it hits really low notes, also it is in a ported box, it is ported to 32hz using some sub software, i forget what it was called but everyone said it was very good. As long as i don't play a song with any low low note it will work just fine, but if any low low note are played the popping starts and slowly gets louder. Could this be becasue of a bad box design? I built it myself. I just wonlder why it worked great for 6 months and now it crappy. Thanks again.
