I have a 2002 with a Jeraco cap on it (needed it for the dog). I was wondering if anyone would have any kind of logical place to put a CB Antenna. I dont want to drill, but it looks like I might have to. Any help would be appreciated.

In that situation---I would just use a magnetic mount. WILSON makes a nice 2.5 foot metal whip that you can get for aroung 25 bucks on ebay---whick is mounted on a magnet. Magnet mounts are not as stylish as permenant mounting. However---I had mine set up where I just put it on the roof when I needed it---stored it behind the seat when I didn't. K-40 also makes some really good magnetic mounts.

Had a bad experience with magnets. Would rather find a backwoods engineered rig so its permanent. When I had my tonneau cover (which I am selling here), I has an aluminum bracket rigged to come out from under the rail frame. Worked well, until I got rear ended. Thanks for the post though. I will check back.

Radio shack has a through the glass antenna for a CB radio. It is not very effecient but it does work. You just stick the antenna on the out side and the receiver wire on the inside of your truck.

Thanks for the Radio Shack thing, but I have had one of these antennas, and I cannot see myself buying another one. I have a Cobra trucker model, and a wilson whip antenna that is awesome, as long as it is upright. Thats the trick here though... mounting it. I might have to concoct one of my own homemade brackets like last time.

This solution requires drilling, but it's minimal and pretty
much hidden. Punch throught the firewall to the left of
the steering column and thread the antenna wire
through it. Then mount a bracket to the top of the
quarterpanel so that it doesn't impede the hood from
lifting. We do it all the time for firefighter vehicles who
don't want to 'drill' into their cars. Most quality radio/
communication shops have the brackets for about $5.
The bracket is usually for fords, but you can mod it
quickly for the sheet metal profile of the dakota.

Scott,

I put some pics of the mount that I am using up on the web at http://users.snip.net/~wsikorski/

The fender mount is from Firestik and the "banjo" style antenna mount is, I believe, from a K-40 stake pocket mount.

Can you email me those pictures. For some reason I cannot save these pictures to my C drive. Also, can you give me some basic idea of how you have this unit wired. I think I see the COAX near the windshield, but would like clarification. THANKS

PS: I see you have an ever so familiar NJ INSPECTION Sticker. Drop me a line. I am in Warren County.
