Subject: New Components IP: Logged
Message: I have just installed a set of infinity component speakers in my dak. Before installing these, I still had the factory speakers in the doors, and the sound was clear, but I knew those wouldn't last long. I mounted the crossovers that come with this setup in each door, and wired it up. I cut a hole up by the mirror, where the factory infinity speakers go, and put the 1" tweet up there. It sounds great, but I've have noticed a slight engine noise now. It was not doin this before, so I wouldn't think it would be my ground. Has anyone else had this problem with the infinity kappa component set. All my RCA's are monster cable, and streetwires. 4ga power and ground going to distribution blocks, then to a kenwood amp powering 2 RF HX2's. Also to a sony amp thats powering the front and rear speakers. Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Message: Try getting a noise filter. My factory speakers get engine niose also. It has to do with your alternator. You can buy like 3 different types of noise filters from AutoZone, but if that doesnt work, let me know.

Message: A noise filter may work, but it's just a bandaid. If you truly had no noise before installing the new components, then the noise is likely due to the crossovers being mounted too close to something that could cause it, like power wiring to the electric window motor. I'd start troubleshooting there. I think it's more likely that the upgraded tweeters on the components just make the noise noticeable, and it was there before. Usually noise enters between the head unit and amplifiers. Check out some of the car audio sites and do a search for this. Audiocontrol.com used to have a great PDF file on the cause of noise and troubleshooting. I know from experience it can be a BIG pain. Good luck.

Message: Thanks OttsQuad, I do remember that when I mounted the crossovers, it was close to some other wires, but not sure where they went. I don't have power windows or locks, so I'm not sure what those wires are for, maybe they go to that sensor that tell when your door is open. I was also thinking about the point you brought up, about the noise being there before and I just couldn't hear it, and now with the tweets it just makes it more noticeable. Anyway, I have to pull my door panel, and put a new lock rod cause someone tried to pry my handles off and steal my stuff, and bent bent the lock rod. They were unsucessful getting in, but still did some damage. Maybe I'll try to relocate the crossover and see if that helps. Thanks for your input.

Message: I'd bet the noise was there before but you never noticed since the factory speakers could not reproduce it.
Noise can NOT enter thru speakers wires, only RCA cables or power/ground connnections. My system has a touch of alternator whine at the lowest volume settings, its most noticeable when the lots of electrical accessories are turned on like the both the A/C & lights. It's very minor however. If you turn down your amp gains it should go away.
I'd check the ground connection 1st and make sure it's on soild metal with all the paint cleared away. Might try ground each amp by itself instead of thru the distribution block as well to see if that helps.

Message: I think your right about the noise being there before, but I just couldn't hear it. I'll check my ground wire, and try to get a better connection. I don't think it's my RCA's, I have monster cable, and one set of StreetWires. The last truck I had a system in had a noise too, thats when I got monster cable, and it cleared it up. Thanks for all the input, BTW John, why don't you go and get your fuel injectors cleaned, LOL.

Message: Well, i got a question now. My factory speakers pick up engine noise now! The more gas i give, the louder the buzzing is. I just bought some Pioneer components w/ crossovers and plan on putting them in tonight. Will they make that buzzing noise also???? Thanks,
-Matt
