Subject: thunderform amp IP: Logged
Message: hey all. im sure a bunch of you have thunderforms...and i'm looking for a few opinions, .. which i'm hoping some of you have.
i have a memphis 50X4 amp running 2 sets of components and an empty thunderform box.
im not looking for alot of bass, just want to fill out the sound. my questions are: a 250W amp would accomplish this? (a good one... lets say memphis). I know a 500w would most likely be better, but i honestly don't think ill ever drive it that hard, as i listen to mostly punk/indie/hardcore - no rap/techno...etc.
so. if i get a 250W memphis amp, what speakers should i put in? do the mtx's sound decent?? again, im for sound quality, not spl.
any other speakers that would be better and dont need a whole lot of amp to drive? has anyone tried putting one 10" in and sealing off the other side with a piece of wood or something....just throwin some crazy ideas at y'all.
any responses are much appreciated, as i plan on ordering my amp asap, and then just need to buy the speakers.
thanks

Would this be a 2-channel, 125 watt per channel amp? That'd likely fill in the lows pretty nicely.
"as i listen to mostly punk/indie/hardcore"
ALL music benefits from good bass :)
"so. if i get a 250W memphis amp, what speakers should i put in? do the mtx's sound decent??"
the advantage of going with the MTXs is that the enclosure was designed with them in mind. Also, the enclosure is somewhat depth-limited and I can see a lot of other 10"s not being able to fit.
" has anyone tried putting one 10" in and sealing off the other side with a piece of wood or something....just throwin some crazy ideas at y'all."
Not a good idea, the enclosure would be too big for a single woofer (assuming you were using the MTXs.)

Message: thanks jim.
it would be a mono 250w amp.
also, if i want a 4 ohm load, there is no way to achieve this using 2 4ohm svc subs correct? i would need two 8ohm svc subs. i only ask cause theres a decent pair on ebay, but they are 4ohm svc each.

Message: I take it the amp isn't 2-ohm stable, then?
