Subject: Anyone try this?

Message:
Wondering if anyone has tried to use the factory head unit, pulled out the crap dodge amp and rewired the head outputs into a low level input for an amp or eq. I'd like to try seeing as I want to keep the factory look and have a decent stealth install. I already have a thunderform with two JL 10's and I spliced into the rear to get the high end signal but I'm thinking that I probably could get better S.Q if I wired in my own 4 channel. Any thoughts or ideas would be great. Thanks,
Stiinc

two issues:

1) the head unit's internal amp takes a differential input, and most aftermarket amplifiers take a single-ended input; grounding one side would be no good, and leaving it floating will open you up to noise issues

2) there often is a DC offset on both input pins on the internal amplifier, which the aftermarket amp might not like.

Best bet is to either use line-output convertors or just put in an aftermarket head unit.

Hmmmm, never thought about the old style common ground thing...Thanks for the info I guess I'll stick with the craptory deck and amp for now, till I can get my hands on a better deck.

i still got the stock deck in my 03 club cab.

its the infinity system, and im running a LOC to a Memphis St1000d and 2 12" rockfords. i got the bass on the deck almost all the way down, and i get a little bit of mid-bass from them, and the treble is all the way up.

its sounds pretty good, with no distortion to the subs. im going to stick to the stock "infinity" speakers for now. in a little while im going to upgrade them to real infinitys.
