Subject: amps cutting out IP: Logged
Message: I have 2 10"subs that can handle 250 watts each and an amp that puts out 500 watts rms at 2 ohms. I also have a 4 channel amp running my front and rear speakers (75 watts rms per channel). My problem is that my amps keep cutting out when played too long at high volumes and it's NOT from overheating. they kick back on when I rev my engine, or if I'm driving over 50 mph. someone suggested something with my remote turn on wire, but I had no clue what he was talking about (my remote turn on whire is daisey chained to the 4 channel amp and from there to the mono sub amp).
I think my friend was telling me that the remote turn on wasn't getting a constant signal so it turns off the amps. If any one else knows what to do or why my amps cut off and cut back on when I rev the engine, please let me know.
Thanks a lot,
Alan

Message: The remote turn on thing could be right... if the voltage is dropping on that wire it could be causing the 2nd amp in the daisy-chain to shut off due to lack of power. Reving your engine boosts the alternators output enought to get the power flowing again.
Easiest way to fix this is to connect the remote turn-on to a relay and then use it to power the two amps. Your decks remote out may not be powerfully enought to the run the two amps together.

Message: My friend with a GrandAm had the exact same problem. Relay fixed it, so that would be my advice also.
