Subject: 2 fuses in one power wire?? IP: Logged
Message: Heres a Question????>>>> Does it hurt to have 2 fuses in the same power wire
ex.
[B+]-----fuse--------------fuse----[AMP]
I am remounting my amp, and my power wire is a little too short. I have extra and i thought i could splice it together with another fuse box holder and mount it nicley infront of my sub box. Does it hurt to have 2 fuses in the same power wir, pros or cons??? I found a screw splice at Radio shack but it is for 8 ga wire and mine is 4 ga. Could someone give me tips or advice???
both fuses are 30 amps. same as in the amp it self

Message: I would think the power wire is protected the same as before ... provided you have a fuse within 18" of the battery. It's no different than when you run fused power to a fused distribution block.
And on that note, have you considered a distribution block (fused or unfused)? If you plan on the second being visible, the dist. block would look better. Plus if you ever decide to add a crossover or another amp, it will already be there.

Message: No, im not goin to add any other amps. I was goin to get a fuse holder by Lightining Audio similar to the one thats about 8" from my batt. I was goin to screw mount it to the floor infront of my sub box, 'cause I want to "show off" the cool blue 4ga Lightining Audio wire. It matches my neon blue Power Acoustik amp. So two fuses wont mess anything up? right? Im thinkin of it as "Double Protection"

As far as double protection goes, the second fuse (closest to the amp) is only protecting the short piece of wire between the amp and fuse. But no, you won't be messing anything up by adding the second fuse.
I just checked out Lightning's fuse holders and I think the blue would look cool. But just to throw something out, would a T block like below give you enough length? They're available in gold or platinum finish and are 4g in and 4g out. Might be a nice contrast to the blue wires.

Message: i responded in another post in case you missed this...
2 fuses would only give you 2times protection (if for some reason the fist fuse didnt blow, the nextone would)...
however...
runnin them in parralel (rather than series) would allow... more amps to pass through.. IE:
you run 1 wire from the batt, split it, put a 30amp fuse on each wire, then after the fuse, rejoin them, you would have 60amps worth of protection since the load is split between them.
