Subject: Quad Cab Speaker Install IP: Logged
Message: I just tried to install Pioneer 4way 6.5s, I bought for my front speaker locations. I know the stock speakers are 6 3/4 but the box said they we're GM/Dodge compatible. I don't see anyway of installing these without drilling new holes to mount them. I don't have the Infinity system just the stock system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: I just installed those in my truck and they work fine, just drill some new holes it took me about 1/2 hour per door.I used them in the back aswell and they fit okay too,had to do a little mod. Those speakers sound great with a better deck than stock, with the original deck they dont sound much better than stock.I did the speakers one day and they were better than stock but not much but after adding the premier deck it was night and day difference, they sound great.

Message: Zep I have a 02 quad and I had the same problem i tried several pairs.Everyone told me they would fit i did not want to drill holes in the door because they are a so close to an exposed area. I finely found some at BEST BUY they were only 3-ways but they were 6 3/4 they also came with a plate to mount the speaker to that mounts right on the factory riser. They were expensive but probably cheaper then your 4-ways. I bought them when BEST BUY had them buy 1 pair get 1/2 off the second pair. I hope this helps you.

Message: Dakotaster those were the ones i wanted to buy, however the Best Buy I work stoped careing those because no one was buying them. I'm very hesitant about drilling holes so I'm probably now just going to have the guys I work with install them.

Message: Go down to Oarchard Supply Hardware or a store similare and pick up a sheet of 1/4" thick mdf wood. Take the plastic risers and sand down the clips that hold the factory speakers in so that the front of the riser is completely flat. Take the riser and place it flat on the mdf and trace strait lines from each corner where the screws enter. It kinda looks like a messed up triangle. Then flip over mdf with riser on it and trace the inside of the riser on the mdf. This way you can find the center of the speaker hole and place the speaker in the center instead of off to the side or what not. Now take your speaker and place it centered inside the circle you just traced and find out how far in the hole for the speaker needs to be and from the center take something to make a nice round circle and mark the cirle where the speaker will go into. Cut it all out and drill for the holes and then you have a mount. Its kinda hard to explain, but its REALLY easy to do. I know I probly didnt make sense somewhere so if you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to help you out. Take it easy guys.

Message: LOL What is wrong with drilling some little holes? It`s not going to hurt anything and those 4 ways sound way better than the 3 ways.Im am very happy with 2 pair of those 4 ways and the Premier DEHP350 deck,it sounds great and I wish now that i hadnt ordered my Bazooka tube because the bass is good enough for me but more bass the better

Message: you mean to tell me that you can hear the differance between 3-ways and 4-ways. WOW I guess it depends and where you live because in Ohio we have winter and with this comes salt and that gets everywhere including inside the doors. in a couple of years those holes will rust.Thats why there are drain holes in the bottom of your doors.
Zep You say you work at best buy i bought an extended warranty with these speakers. What will they replace them with. If i ever plan to return them i will never give up those adapters.I agree with blackdak20 i would just make something out of wood before drilling holes i guess.

Message: Dakotaster, with the 4yr warranties they'll probably just swap the ones you have for new ones and if the new ones are more money you just pay the differance. If they're cheaper thought i can't remember if you they refund you the money or just match both to the same price.

Message: The 4 ways sound way better,go listen for yourself and as far as holes rusting, use a little silicone on the holes or put anti-seize on them. Also I saw those 4 ways on ebay for 59 bucks a pair,I dont think I've heard a better speaker for the price.

Message: If im right those 4ways have that little speaker the size of your thumb nail.if thats it the sound it produces has got to be so high that you almost need dog ears to hear it. I cant tell the difference between 3 or 4 ways. Anyone elses thoughts?

Message: BlackDak20 is right... that how I just put a set of Infinity 6.5" components in my '02 Quad Cab. I'll have pictures up this weekend of the install - it was super easy, if you can trace and cut plywood with a jigsaw your all set. There are NO extra holes in my doors, just a modified plastic factory bracket.
Forget 3 and 4 ways... stick to 2-ways or even better components with a seperate tweeter and crossover - they sound 10X better.

Message: Two things.... (1)Why do you all keep saying 6 3/4"? When the speakers are 6 1/2.
(2)I just installed 4 Infinity Kappa's 63.5i (6 1/2")speakers. I didn't have to drill anything, just used the plates provided)
Website that helped me... (I know it says Extended Cab, but the doors are the same)

Message: My 02' QC had 6 3/4" speakers for sure, the new Infinity 6 1/2" would not have fit without the adaptors I made. See my web site linked above, I put the speakers next to each other so you can see the difference.
Now, the cones themselves were the just about same size (at around 6.5"), it's the speakers basket's that ARE different.
