Message: I have 1 thunder8000 MTX 12" sub,8 gauge wire w/ an inline fuse going to a 560 watt amp. Every time i turn the gain up from 0 the fuses blow. Its really getting me pissed. I have it bridged. Could that be the problem? Or do i need a larger power wire?

Is this a new installation or did you recently bridged the amp?
What size is the inline fuse?
When you say that the fuses blow, do you mean the amp fuses or the inline fuse? What are the ratings on the amp fuses?
Is the 560w the bridged wattage or the unbridged wattage?
I think the power wire & inline fuse needs to be upgraded, but can't say for sure.

Message: The amp fuses are blowing, i just got back from radio shack and im going to try upgrading the inline fuses to heavy duty fuses. I have 30 amp fuses in the amp so im going to upgrade them while i am at it. I might as well do the power wire also. Thanks alot

Message: DO NOT "UPGRADE" THE FUSES IN THE AMP!!! Those 30 amp fuses are what's protecting your entire amplifier from frying. My guess is that you're running too low of an impedance that the amplifier can't handle. Therefore pulling too much current and causing your fuses to blow. Look over the installation manual for your amp to make sure it is being used properly.

Message: yea i meant get better fuses (not change the ampage. I picked up a heavy duty fuse for the inline fuse. Im going to run 4 gauge wire and see if that helps. the setup worked fine for about 2 months and all of a sudden ive been going thrue fuses like candy.

Message:
If it's been running for two months and all of a sudden you're blowing fuses, new power wire probably won't solve your problem. It sounds like you might have developed a short somewhere, have a loose wire or your amp is going belly up. For starters trace your wires out and see if everything is all set.

Message:
My ground (8g) is hooked up under where the stock floor console goes. I probably should've found a shorter ground (it's currently about 2.5 feet), but there's a hole that a 3/8" bolt fits perfectly in and is easily accessible from underneath.
The hole is even snug enough so I could put the lock washer and nuts on from underneath with no one holding the head of the bolt inside the cab.
Just be sure to sand the paint off the contact point for the ground. Then take some paint or clear coat and spray the area after the ground is attached so it doesn't rust.
And yes, the seat belt bolts are bad locations for amp grounds.

Message: Your ground needs to be at least the same gauge as your power wire, or bigger, any smaller, and it wont have enough flow to ground out your amp. i have my amp mounted on the wall behind the seat. my power wire is 4 ga., and so is my ground. I drilled a hole in the wall and bolted down my ground about 4 in. awy from the amp. Its almost as good of ground as you can get. Mine has never blown a fuse. and i've had it there for over a year.
Heres a Question????>>>> Does it hurt to have 2 fuses in the same power wire
ex.
[B+]-----fuse--------------fuse----[AMP]

Message: Well, try a different grounding point, also, make sure your amp, or amp mounting screws dont come in contact with any metal. That can cause ground looping, and that could possibly be a prob.
The reason i wanted another fuse, was so i could add extra power wire, (i thought i didnt have enough) but i got everything in fine, no more problems.

Message: 2 fuses would only give you 2times protection (if for some reason the fist fuse didnt blow, the nextone would)...
however...
runnin them in parralel (rather than series) would allow... more amps to pass through.. IE:
(i couldn get the text to work right)
but you have 1 line coming in, split it to two, put to 60 amp fueses on each side, rejoin the wirse (make 1 to 2 then 1 again) then run to your amp... you would allow 120 amps to pass through the fuses (60 each side) and it wouldnt blow till it hit 120.
Dave- Thx for the grounding info, i ve ben searching all night!

Message: I have the pretty much the same problem as above, I have a 560 watt amp and I bridged that to my subs. I have a 50 watt inline fuse, and the amp has 2, 30 watt fuses. My subs stopped working, so I checked the fuses, the inline was blown so I purchased a pack. The moment I put one and I turned my stereo on, it fried, I did that three times. Everything had been working fine for atleast 2 months. I check my connections and my ground, which is grounded to the body. Any ideas?

Message: I am having a similar problem with my system. I just installed two amps in my car. For about two days, the system was sounding great and all of a sudden my subs shut off. I checked all of the wiring and found that the two 30 amp fuses in my sub amp were both blown. Can't figure out why this happened because I checked all my connections and they all seem to be Ok. The other amp thats playing my mids and highs is still playing fine. Ive been installing systems for over 10 yrs now and have never had that problem. Only happended if i accidently touched power wires with ground wires while testing equipment. The power wires for both amps are only about 3ft and are both connected to a fuse block that is connected with 4 guage wire to the battery. If there was a short in the power wire, both amps would be affected. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the amp is defective. Hopefully the place I purchased the amp from will honor their warranty because Ive only played it for a couple of days.
