Anyone got any tips??? I've done several installs and know each vehicle has it's own special "tricks" to getting the door panels off and back on. So what should I look out for? I hate breaking or lossing those stupid little clips - they always pop off and go flying!

I'll have a full report with pictures once finished. I'm putting a set of Infinity Referrence comps up front and the co-axials in the back of my '02 Quad Cab in this weekend.

i don't know if they changed the doors with the restyling of the dash in 2001 but my door panels came off with the removal of about 5 screws, one on the sail panel, 2 or 3 on the bottom edge and a t-25 torx screw behind the door lever then it just popped off knida light and plenty of room in there for crossovers let me know how it goes!!

With my 02 quad cab there are two screws on the bottom of the door. There is one screw behind the little cover in the door handle. One behind the pull handle and one in the sail piller. After that you just lift the cover up and out.then you have to disconnect the the lock lever and the door handle lever they just pop off and the rods lift out. then disconnect the power window and lock switchs.By the way JMII the door speakers are 6 3/4 not that the 1/4 makes a big difference but every little bit helps plus the mounting brakets are made for 6 3/4. I replaced mine with pioneer 6 3/4 3-ways from best buy. They came with brackets that mounted the speakers directly to the factory risers. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info peeps

dakotaster - since the Infinitys are smaller (6.5") I'll just make a custom bracket myself out of wood to fit them. I've done custom door panel installs before so this little tweak will be a piece of cake for me.

I was just wondering what other people had experienced in getting the panel off. For example getting the dash off would be a huge B!TCH if you did not know about that weird lock connector for the lights - that thing was wack!

Anyway... the speakers may not go in until next week... I just missed the UPS guy yesterday and he'll be back on Monday :(

The good news is I think I sold my amp which means I can now afford my Kicker 8" L5 Sub! I was under strict orders from the finance manager (aka: wife!) - no new toys until I sold the older stuff in the garage first :P My entire system could be done in another two weeks then. My goal was to finish it before the truck turned a year old and I just might make it :)

That cool! I was thinking of making them myself i tool the easy way out.Thinking of buy a new pioneer stereo. I had to also check with my finance manager.Do you think the 60x4 would be enough power without adding an amp? I only have 45x4 now.

dakotaster - the Infinitys I'm using are rated to 90 watts but I've only got 55 going to them. Radios never put out that much... most are around 15 maybe 20 watts max regardless of what they claim. If you want real power you got to get an amp. Plus with an amp you can add a crossover real easy and keep the mids from distoring when you crank up the bass. Of course that also means getting another amp and a sub - but the finance manager may not approve all that at once LOL

Report:

Easiest door panel I've ever worked on!

A screw up in sail pillar (mirror), two at the bottom, one behind the door handle that has a tiny plastic "button" covering it and finally a screw behind the door pull itself. Once all screws are out just lift the door panel up and it pops right out... none of those stupid little clips to align.

Now you just need to remove the wiring harness to the windows/door switches. The tricky part is the door lock and handle control rods - the clips on those are a b!tch and you have only a few inches to squeeze your hand down in there to work. It helps if someone else can hold the door for you at this point, I just suffered by myself.

To get the new speakers to fit I made a template out of plywood and screwed it to the factory bracket, then mounted the slightly smaller 6.5" speakers to that. I'll have pictures up on my site this weekend at some point. I still have to do the rear doors as well.

Intresting thing was that markings on the back side of the door showing where the factory tweeter goes... this made cutting out for MY new tweeters super easy, it's the same size hole (1 3/4"). Also no problem finding a place to hold the crossover either, plenty of room in these doors.
