Subject: isobaric port calculations?
IP: Logged

Message:
when building an isobaric box, do you calculate the port to be the same as for one speaker or for two? I assume one.

also do you calculate it based on the volume of the isobaric setup? which is half what the volume would be for one sub or as if you are only useing one driver?

also I've heard peak spl is at around 70hz would a port tuned to 60hz have higher spl then one tuned around 32hz, or would the frequency be way to high and almost dangerous without a sub sonic filter.

also the port I have currently has a surface area of 43.875square inches when I calculated my port It was 4:00am in the morning and I was pretty tired last night at about 2:30am I realized I calculated the surface area of a 4inch port incorrectly as well. it would be 12.56(correct) so my port is extremely oversize. so now the present port is tuned at around 70hz instead of the planned 30hz.

before I redue my port, wouldn't the 70hz tuneing frequency be great for spl. but have rather crappy sound quality given it so high?

I beleive I calculate the port for an isobaric box as if it were 2cuft as opposed to the actual volume of 1cuft, really looking for some clarification on this as since i will have to redue it I'd rather due it correctly.

also since the length of my port needs to be roughly 15inches long and my box is only 13.5 deep I have the port on the face of the box with the speaker faced upward given the lenght of the port its shaped like an L with the start of the port behind the magnet.

isn't this a no,no for a port? sorry for all the questions just starting to notice some potential problems with my construction as I go along.
