Subject: Back Seats in QC IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 2001 quad cab and am wanting to put a system in it, I'm wanting to put in a twelve or two behind the fold down seats in the back. I've got two problems. One is, how do you take out the back seats? I see the 2 bolts per folding mechanism, but are there any nuts under the car that can fall as I unscrew the seats? since I looked under the car and the nuts are covered with seat metal and it looks like a MAJOR pain to get to the nuts. My second question, is there enough room under my back seats to fit an amp without overheating? since I know temp. is an issue with amps.

Message: You Will NOT fit any 12's behind the back seats. Not if you want to keep the seats. There is hardly any room back there. I had to notch the back of my box just to fit a 10. It was a very tight squeeze as well. Sounds good on the mid and hight bass but hardly any lows. If you find a way let me know because I would like to put 12's in mine as well. Good luck.

Message: Just remove the nuts in the floor (inside). The bolts coming up through the floor will not fall out or turn. After all the nuts are removed, fold the seat up and lift. The back is not bolted down. It has a hook in the cab panel that the back of the seat slides in. Just lift up on the seat until it comes loose. Its pretty easy. They're a little heavy and bulky, but not that bad to remove.

Message: i have my amp behind the drivers rear seat. i don't have overheating issues.
oh, when you have the back seats out, you may want to cut back the little brackets where the seats hook on the cab wall. that way you can fold the backs down to get to amps and speakers.

Message: Modifying the rear seats to flip down isnt that hard,,, and no you aren't a jackass for doing it. Graphitedak has some good pics of the shortened tabs, brackets, fingers, ah what ever you want to call them.
All that needs to be done is shorten the 2 metal finger tab on each seat back by about 3/4". With the tab shortened you can pull the seat backs down and reattack them while folding the seat up and down. It's almost like intended the seat backs to flip down.

Message: thanks dsw! it makes it a lot easier if you ever have problems with your equipment. unless you like the extra labor of unbolting your seats. some people are gluttens for punishment.
