 Subject: What is PTY?

Just installed a 2003 Factory radio in my 2001 Dakota. What the hell is PTY and can anyone tell me how it works, it seems to have something to do with the scan function, but i cant figure the thing out, any help appreciated

It stands for Program Type. For stations that broadcast the info, you can scan for certain types of music, ie country, rock, etc. Most stations don't do this, so it's pretty much worthless. Only one station here in Baton Rouge broadcasts it. For stations that do, it will also display their call letters.
