Subject: Custom sound for a Quad IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Quad and after a 6 month head scratching period I am finally getting my sound system done.
Everyone wonders where to put subs. I looked into having custom mounts built into my back doors. The panels would be remolded to fut a couple of 10 inch subs. Not good. Cost would be about $1000 just for fabrication cost and the sound would be bad. I'd have two subs facing each other cancelling each other out. So I'm having a smallish box made that fits in front of the back seats. It will fit on the hump in the middle and will hold one 10 or 12 inch sub firing out slots on both sides of the bottom.
I'm having component speakers put up front. The tweeters will be in the A pillars and fire at the windshield to reflect back into the cabin. 6 1/2's in the doors.
There will be an amp under each seat.
I should have before and after pics for anyone interested in a week. E-mail me if you are curious. jcahak@juno.com

Message: I had the same head scratching session that you did with my quad cab. I managed to fit a 2 cubic foot box behind the rear seats with a Rockford 12 DVC - it sounds great and is absolutely invisible. Check out the pics on DTO gallery for monkeyjuice.

Message: I'm doing the small box in front of the rear seats on the hump thing myself - just going with one Kicker L5 8" however. Be warned... there is not much room under the seats for the amps - my HiFonics Z440 just barely fit behind the rears! See my web site below for pictures.

Message: Just got my truck back and it sounds great. Decided against the tweeters in the A pillars. There wasn't as much room there as we thought and the cost of remolding new trim was not worth it. The sound of the tweeters in the door is great. The cost of cool wasn't worth it there. The sub box is great. I have pics. It sits on the hump and fits great with the back seats up or down. It's so heavy it just sits there and hasn't tipped over once. I have a single 10 incher in there. My Alpine amps fit under the seats great. I used them in my 99 crew cab. I have a 2 channel for the sub and a 4 channel for he rest. That's a future upgrade. I have Focal (FO-cal) components in the door. The 6.5's have Kevlar cones. Very bright and accurate. I also had my guy make me a plexi trim piece for the head unit. I didn't like the cheapo stock trim. If you'd like pics e-mail me at jcahak@juno.com

Message: You could have flush mounted them in the headliner in the corner just above the pillar.
