Message: Should I buy the focal 165V (polyglass with titanium tweeter) components for $220. Or should I get the 165KS, previous model but new (kevlar woofer and kevlar tweeter) for $275? What would sound better? What 4 channel amp would be good? New Blaupunkts? Thanks for the opinions.

From what I've heard, you generally can't go wrong with Focal's. Some people do complain that the titanium tweeter is too harsh, but it's better suited to hard rock, rap and the such.
As for amps, I like Orion, Alpine, RF and MTX. Depends on your price range and speaker's RMS.

Message: Silver, I have Polykevlar 165K in my Dakota and they sound damn good. As far as I know both the Polyglass and Kevlar series have the same tweeter(tn-45).
The difference is the woofer, the Polykevlar set has a richer fuller sound compared to the Polyglass.
If you plan on running the speakers just of your deck(no amp) get the polyglass for sure but if you have a good qulity amp i.e. Soundstream, Precision Power,Phoenix Gold,Zapco..etc go with the Polykevlar set wich will require more power before the start to come alive.
But whatever you do get Focal speakers or a least something equal CDT,Rainbow,OZ,Dynaudio,Image Dynamics.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Best Buy Circuit City crap!!

Message: Dakman- If you read my first post, I was refering to the old line of focal comp. The 165KS are now the 165K. Yes, both new models (165V and 165K)have the titanium tweeters, but the 165KS have the TN46 kevlar tweeters. I can purchase a new set of the old 165KS for $275 compared to over $300 for the 165K. And the 165V are about $220. Would the kevlar tweeters be not as harsh? Is the Kevlar woofer better? Is the previous models as good as the current focals? Thanks for the insight.

Message: Silver, I don't have any experience with older models of Focal speakers so I can't say but as far as the new models go the tn-45 tweeter is really not that harsh and it's crossover can be adjusted to your liking.
Yes the kevlar woofers are better but it depends on how loud you want it and the type of music you like.
Kevlars are better if you like it loud and want strong midbass.
Polyglass are more mellow and the mdbass is not as strong.
Just remember your amp selection is just as important as your speaker selection. A good amp with at least 50Wrms should do the trick(check my post above for some good brands).

Message: I plan on putting the Utopias in my truck once I pay this thing off (~9 grand left to go) and I will buy some of them, but the Kevlars are awesome.
