Message: Justin,
Its possible to make a box completly out of MDf, thats what the original design by Anthony was, and many like it.
What is gained by glassing in the bottom is additional volume/space and mounting depth. I built a sub-box very similar to Koz's, glassed in bottom, with (4) Kicker 10's.
If your gonna make a flat bottom, check the mounting depth of the speakers you are going to use before building the box. You sure can't fit JL W7's back there and still use the seats..

Message: what I really need is the shape ya'll used for the side and precise measurements as well as for the back I built a box based on anthoneys design only 13 inches wide and it doesn't fit well at all.
kovr6 how much would you want to duplicate your box except for the second layer of mdf on the top?

Message: justin, if you built a "solid MDF" bottom. you will have like 4" of mounting depth. anybody know of a 12" with a 4" mounting depth? i dont think so.
a "good" 12 will have a mounting depth of 6"+
the subs im using have a depth of 6.5", and i left 1.25" underneath for the vent pole to breathe.
i also have to find some new seats. i might have some custom made. right now height is about where you normal seats are in the stock position. if i were to put the seat ontop your head would be hitting the roof. so im going to have to find some type of seat pad that is like 1-2: thick. instead of the factory seats which are like 4" thick.

Message: yes they make a thunderform when you get it put some lexan over the subs to give an effect of slot loading and spray the inside of the box in some kind of sound deadener. that should clear up the only complaints people have with the thunderforms.

Message: fiberglass is easy. its just extremely messy, and you get a kick a$$ high off the resin . hahah
your truck will also smell like resin for about 2 weeks. i did alot of driving with the windows down.
i did about 7 layers. its about 3/8" thick. its pretty solid. it cost me about $160 CND for the resin, hardner, and mat/cloth. and $30 CND for the MDF

Message: Did anyone think of cutting the bottom of the seat out so u could have a box go up a little more into the seat, but still have a soft enough seat,... cause thats what i plan on doing... i saw a picture of two amps cut into the back seat,... like u pull the seat up and they are there... i was like wtf... but as i thought about it... it's a perfect idea. cause it utilizes (sp?) that space that really isn't needed.

Message: well, the thunderform has 5" of mounting depth.
you could do it and it will hit harder than a t-form. but then again, just like the t-form, you are really limited to your sub options. because of moutning depth.
wait till im done my setup and i will post my pics. im going to make some custom seats. you might like it.

Message: y justin,
i have done alot of thinking. and its about how often i have people in the back seat. and its not too often. but i still want it available if i need it. i was going to have custom seats made, but im not going to do that now.
here is what im going to do. im going to put a 1/2" piece of carpeted MDF on cabinet hinges to cover the subs when not in use, and in the up position when the subs are on. screw the people in the back seat!!!!! they can sit their a$$ on the hard wood if they have to!!!! if i go on a trip and someone needs to sit back there, ill pick up a cushion or something.
if you have people in the back seat all the time, this idea would not be good for you. but if your like me, and hardly have people back there, then its ok. plus im not the one sitting on it! i got my nice comfy leather seat! lol
as for the height of it. its about 2" higher than the stock seat.
