Subject: Which would be better? IP: Logged
Message: I would like to know if having 4 10" subs would be much better than having 2 10" subs. A local store said I could fit 4 under the back seat of my 03' Dakota CC, but I dont know if the extra money for the subs is worth it. Any help would be great. Oh by the way i would be using JL subs and a RF 700s amp.
Thanks,
James

Message: if your going with JLs put in 3 subs. i dont know why but for some reason JLs aren't supposed to be used in pairs or even numbers. so 1 sub would sound good but not hit that hard. 2 subs would sound bad (ive heard 2 together and its very sloppy). but 3 would hit hard and sound good.
im puttin one JL but i dont really care if my stuff hits that hard.

Message: I've never heard a pair of JL's sound sloppy that would make no sense at all if they did. It was probably the box they were in. 4 would be a lot more air moving than 2, but it would also require a lot more power to run them and depending on what the subs want for power I don't know if that amp would like to push them.

Message: JLs made a series of subs (forget the models name/numbers) with odd ohm ratings like 3 & 6 instead of the normal 4 & 8 which is why you see them in combos of 3s. They did it because three subs fit in most vehicles while four sometimes would be too big of a box that's all. So two subs, even with those odd ohm loads, would still sound fine. Clearly more subs are always better since they'll move more air.
