ok. your front speakers work fine?

try switching the wires to run the rears off the front channels of the deck. if the rears work, you most likely have a problem with the deck.

if they dont work, you are still getting the same result. there has got to be a problem with the wiring, or the speakers are totally shot

Ok this is beginning to make no sense to me. The head unit I'm using worked wonderfully last week when i pulled it out of my sonoma. The system in the Dakota works great with the stock head unit, all the speakers work at full volume etc. But when i go and plug my pioneer head in,the rear speakers dont work and the front have a really really low volume

sounds like your ground is poor. if the ground works but isn't good it will play but not much. change the ground to the frame and make sure you grind the area that you are grounding to. if there is paint on it it will ground like you are now but won't be a good enough ground.

the dakota came with a strap that was grounded to the metal of the stock system so I assume thats a good place to ground to, however, the pioneer is intended to be ground somewhere other than metal of the head because the wiring harness for the headunit has a black ground wire but i dont have anywhere to plug this into on the wiring harness of the dakota. There was a little screw hole in the back of my head that i was connecting the ground strap to but i think that was actually for a support bracket. any ideas on how to ground this?

what if i screw the ground strap into the bracket hole like i have been doing, but loop the ground wire from the wiring harness over to there and screw it between the ground strap and a washer?

i posted on your other post and told you what to do about the rear speakers. hear is how you ground it. you know that strap that grounds to the fire wall that you were talking about, take a nut and a bolt and put that through the hole that you were putting on the back of the head unit but leave it loose for now. then strip off obout three inches of the black ground wire coming from the head unit. wrap the ground wire around the bold then tighted the bolt, this grounds the unit.
