hey guys, i know next to nothing about subs and nothing about amps, but anyways i have 2 alpine type r 12's and i had a 800x2 soundstorm amp it sounded good but from what i know it didnt push out 1600 watts but just around 8 or 900 true watts,i just bought a good amp i think its not hooked up yet,its a memphis 1500d amp i bought it from a friend for 300 dollars it was only used about 4 months and it was turned all the way down and i've been told it should push out around 2000 to 2200 true watts will this blow my alpine 12's out?The 12's are 1000 watts max but people have told me there pushing 1200watts through them.Whats 2 good subs that would sound bad a$$ with this amp?if the alpines wont hold up.Thanx guys sorry so long

the alpines should be ok...if they start to pop jus turn down the amp...but i dont think ull have a problem with em. if they do blow u should check out some kicker solobaric L7's, those will handle the power fine as will the RF Power HX2's, and the hi-end JL Audio subs...hope that helps...

Alpine subs

Power Handling

Power Handling Capacity (Peak) : 1000W
Power Handling Capacity (RMS) : 300W

Memphis amp

This amp has power to spare. 1x750@4, 1x1500@2! When you need tons of Clean power at a 2-Ohm rating, this is your amp!

So, depending on which series of alpine subs you have 2 ohm or 4 ohm, will depend on how close you are to maxing them out. I would say with the 2 ohm subs, wired in series you would be fine, wired in parallel you might be pushing it.

Thanx for the help guys,

justin,i was leaning towards the solo's but there expensive but i guess if you want a good sub you have to pay outragous prices,do you know where i might find them cheaper?would ebay have them the cheapest?thanx man

HSKR,they are the 4 ohm ones, these would be the ones that would handle more watts than the 2 ohm stable ones right?I'm trying to learn more about subs and amps because right now i know next to nothing about them, but i think i'm going to like this amp though.Thanx man

If they are the 4ohm subs, then the amp will work real good with them and you shouldn't have to worry about it over powering the subs.

Hey guys,i have a question,What does the word prot mean on this memphis amp?I had it blow a fuse the other day,the one on the positive line not the amp fuse, anyways i put a good one back in and ever sense then when i turn it up the power light blinks and the prot light stays on and makes the subs stop working...could the word prot on this amp mean that i have a bad connection in the positive wire?

prot would be the protection kicking in i would think

something is wrong. double check ALL your wiring. make sure you got a really good ground. and make sure you are running the subs at an OHM that the amp is stable at.

if that doesnt fix it, it might be a problem with the amp. if it is the amp, Memphis has an amazing 3 year over the counter warranty. get your friend to take it back to where he bought it from and they should give him a brand new one (if it has been under 3 years)
