Message: I'm thinking of buying 1 or 2 L7's. Anyone run these? Are there custom boxes for them for 2001CC? Are they worth the high price? I am use to 1 10" comp in 1.25 air in a z-28(almost perfect bass). Any input on L7 setup is appreciated.

No such thing. Tom Nousaine has even written an article about it if I remember right.
If you think that a z28 slams, you will love a truck, specially a regular cab. Z28s have a low STC due to the glass T-top.

Message: Bluethunder, there was no "installation problem", I assure you. This was with 2 different boxes. I will say that My current ones have been running for about 5 months now and I have no problems, maybe I got some first batch lemons, I got the first pair shipped to Ga. as far as I know. I was just wondering if anyone else had any probs. with them. I am going for a different sound now, that is the main reason for getting rid of mine. The reviews about them don't lie, they hit hard and loud. My best SPL was 159. I could have spent a little more time tuning them and gotten a better score.

Message: My plan
Well I am hoping to get some feedback from you all since I dont have too much experience in this area. I was going to see if I could get a thunderform box un-loaded and alter it. I wanted to put two s10L7's in this box. MTX says there box has 1.8 cubic feet of space. The L7's minimum required space for a sealed box is .66. Now I should be able to get away with this with some room to spare dont you think?? Id like to hear everyones opinion.

Message: The Kicker L7 is a wonderful choice.... I was writing about breaking in of the sub.. You must break this sub in as kicker says .... see for your self if you would like www.kicker.com read the installation manual for the L7, this manual says you need to give 2 weeks for the sub to break in.. not hard just don't try to push it to the limits for the first couple weeks and you will be fine. The extra room will add a little bit of sound quality without taking away power handling ... also you would probably want to put some polyfill (pillow stuffing) this will improve your low bass response.

Message: Maby I missed something but you want to put a square woofer in box built for round woofers? I'm not sure this will work without some major modification because the top of the box is recessed where the woofer goes. I think you will end up doing more work than if you just built a box from scratch. I could be wrong though...but if I were you I would get a real good look at the actual Thunderform before greenlighting this project. Hate to have you pay for it to find this out. You can get a round solobaric though which may be what you meant and not the square one.

Message: I disagree about having someone else do it. Boxes aren't that hard to build, and even if you've never done it, it's not hard to learn. Take the time and the 30 dollars you spend on materials and build your own. How your sub is going to sound/perform all depends on your install so you might have to build a few boxes for it to be the way you like it, but it's worth it. I just can't see spending 1000 or more for a general install when it only takes an installer 20 hours to do everything.

Message: If your good with wood working tools, have the time & can do simple math you can make your own box. Just keep it simple and sealed (do not try ported)... it's not that hard. Fit and finish may not be professional quaility but if built right it will sound great and not put you in the poor house. Keep in mind the new L5 are just the old L7s, so can really save some coin there. If your going for max SPLs then the L7s are the way to go, but most people will be fine with L5s I'd think.

I have a )01' Dak ext cab sport and I wanted to take out the rear seats and plastic jack holder to put in two L5 or L7 subs. Will this work? Do I need a custom box? What does it look like udner the plastic? B.) I have heard the MTX box for the Dak sucks and is just really cheap. C) I am in to car stereo but not at the level where I want to tune everything to get the extra decibal or at the level where I know how to do this. Should I not get the L7 or should I get the L5?

Message: XPLIKT, you forget one thing. A z-28 is also a hatchback. If he's firing the subs up or at an angle towards the back it's going to be louder. By bending a soundwave it effectivly doubles the output.
Jim, a 159? No way. Maybe outlaw but I still doubt it. Portwars yes, but a 159 isn't loud in portwars. To pull those numbers out of a truck you need a wall and at least 5000 watts.
Have any of you heard of shocker audio, digital designs or a stroker?

shocker, dd, and strokers are all good, a little pricey though, inhuman's, xxx, and a few others are up there with those... in my opinion inhuman's are the best sounding "loud" subs. i have l7's now just cause i traded up on 2 of the old 12's and got 2 new 15's for 275...didn't have the extra money to buy 2 of the subs above

Message: Joe...
Have you figured out that maybe you are overpowering them? I learned how to tell when a sub is being overpowered after I blew my first one. Here is your problem....
You have an underated 1000 watt Rockford Fosgate amp that probably puts out somewhere around 1300-1500 watts.
You have ONE Kicker L7 rated at 750 RMS.
You are running a ported box, which causes a drastic change in the power handling. The fact that it is a ported box does not contribute to the burned out voice coils, but mostly the suspension bottoming out.
The reason I even care about this is the fact that you are driving up the price of subs. People like you who blow their sub out every week and just don't give a crap since you don't have to pay for the new one, is why the cost of subs is more than it should be.

Message: If you don't wanna blow it up buy a better speaker. The L7's are a decent sub. I've had more than my fair share of kicker products and I know they are good quality. But putting 1200 watts to a 750 watt sub without proper gain setting or volume control will obviously cause problems. I have a single sub that I garantee you won't blow with that amp... I've run audiobahn ultra excursions, shocker extremes, and dd 9515's. My freind has run shocker sigs and strokers, and I know quite a few people who have run mmats juggernauts and RE HC's and the new XXX's. A local shop installed 4 concept csp 15's with a fosgate on each one. They should have 4 fosgates on each sub but they don't listen to me. If anyone knows a good place to link up some pics I might try and post some on here of my truck. It's kinda under construction most of the time but I've had a few good items in there. I had a pair of 9515's in a 16 cube wall with a pair of memphis 1000d's on each one. Now I have a soundstream tarantula and a pair of audiobahns. I'm looking for a second tarantula and some 9915's.

That's ignorant. You knew what the voice coil could handle. It has a 750 watt thermal power handling. Feeding it nearly 1400 is not going to just make it louder. All subs reach their limits. In addition, I am sure all your bass settings on the HU were up and the amp's gain was up the highest, right? This way you can say, "My volume is only up 1/4 of the way and look how loud it is!" Right?

Actually, what is ignorant is you making assumptsions. My gain is about 1/4 to 1/2 the way, the base on the H/U is up 2 and so is the CD feed.
