Subject: which amp will be best for my setup?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have 4 12" power acoustik fubrs that will replace my punch zs.They rms at 900watts .each My question is which of these cheaper amps will be the best bet for right now. I think i will only run 2 of the 12s so i dont need as much power at first. The brand names are: Pyle, legacy, or vortex. Also to run only 2 will I need a second battery and how do you run the battery from the deck toamp/subs.

I can't really suggest any of those amps. Those are some of the worst names in car audio. If you get one of those you definitely won't need a second battery. in fact, you won't need one anyways.

I guarantee that if you put 900 watts RMS into each of those subs they will blow in 10 minutes. What is the impedence of the subs? What you should get instead is a Class D amp. I'd recommend something like a JBL 1200.1, Crossfire 1000D, Cadence A7HC, Memphis 1000D, stuff like that. They will all put out about 1000-1200 watts RMS.

I'd say one for both is plenty. one for all 4 would probably suffice, too.

If you aren't all about sound quality, port the box. that'll give you a few extra db's. also, run all 4 subs if you have room. that'll give you another few db's.

Those subs only have a 2" voice coil, so I wouldn't suggest putting over 3-400 watts RMS each into them. that JBL would work all right. You could try gettin a bigger amp, but I don't know if you'd just be wasting your money for the more power because the subs wouldn't be able to take it. If you want more power than the JBL, you could get an MMATS D200HC (~ 1500-1600 watts). If you really have a lot of money and want even more power (possibly need more money to replace subs if they blow) you could get an Orion 2500D.

I'd also suggest getting a bigger battery. Something like an Optima red top (or even your local store's version, they're basically the same) should work. how big is your alternator?

usually ported boxes will run 3 db louder than sealed, even more depending on where you tune it to. I say hook them up and see what you think. I mean, i'm really only going on what I've heard about them. I've never actually had experience with power acoustic stuff. So they might sound good, or better than i expect.
