Gonna order a new Dak soon. Need to know how
good the 'premium' DC sound is for an 03 CC;
compared to several hundred dollars worth of
aftermarket audio.

The decision point is getting the stock
'premium' Infinity audio & keeping it, vs
ordering a low-end basic unit and stripping it
out right away & then installing a good
aftermarket setup. Can do quite a bit of
electronics work if I have to.

Have had a lot of vehicles in my life, some real
good & some real bad. Found that the stock
audio on the high-end luxo vehicles is pretty
respectable, don't know about the new truck
factory audio quality. I listen to a lot of
different kinds of music, lots of CDs, lots of
FM too, do some long drives, no rap, don't need
extreme heavy mega-bass.

What would you recommend?

How much is the option for premium sound? If over 500 dollars I wouldn't do it. I have never found a stock stereo that I like. I don't know if this is still a problem, but the factory cd players in my mom's durango and my grandma's ram don't play burned cd's (both late 90's models).

I've just never found a factory system that plays very loud or with much sq. even with premium sound the highs aren't there and the mid-bass only seems to like to play about 3 notes.

But for 500 dollars you can get a cd player, good component set and an amp to power them.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Looks like I'll be getting the el cheapo model &
visiting a lot of stereo stores in the next
couple of months.

Plus, a lot of data industry pros are talking
about the end of the line for CDs for most
purposes, to be replaced by DVD disks & players.
CD technology was never really designed properly
from the ground up, and ended up being just a
collection of the most ubiquitous & popular
kludges.
