Message: ok the stock stereo sucks. i have about 1200 or so dollars to spend on a new stereo. i want to replace the cd player with a new unit don't really want a changer just single disc. want to put tweeters up on the pillars, new speakers in all the doors and an 8" sub behind the drivers side rear seat I need suggestions for componets and install. Also what is the max size speaker i can put in the doors i would really like 4 nice 6x9"s if possible 1 for each door. any help would be greatly apprecieated thanks.

Message: Eric,
Here's my suggestion:
New HU: MP3 (if you use them), time correction (helps to maintain stereo imaging), sub volume control, built in xover......Alpine units have these features ~$350 ( I have the cda-7894)
Component speakers: Screw the 6x9's...6.5" comps sound better and how would you fit those damn 6x9's in the door. Put some sound deadening crap in doors and get some Focal components, they sound so nice. They have different lines at different prices. You won't be dissapointed.
Access 6.5"~$150 or less, 165V~$210, 165K~$280(I have these).
Sub: There are many good brands, It all depends on mounting depth and box size. Try to build your own box to the subs recomended volume. If you buy one you can always put stuff, for example bricks, in the box to make it have less volume. The new elemental design A series 8" kicks butt. ($150 for each sub you want)
Amp(s): A four channel can be used for both comps and sub(s) by bridging the rear channels. You could also use two amps, but you will need more space to mount the two amps. I'm using a blaupunkt class T 4x100 rms to power my focal 165Ks and my two Vifa 8" subs. The T class give off very little heat and are very small in size. Do some research and measure the area you want the amp to be before buying. ($300-500)
rear speakers: forget them, If you have comps up front that are amped with over 75 rms they will be very loud. Having rear speakers will trash your stereo imaging. If you have to have them, try running the stocks off the new HU with the new front speakers to see what it would sound like with and without. rears~$0
Good luck,
Nate

Message: Nate's got good suggestions... I run different brands, but the same sizes/watts.
Clarion CD head unit, 12 disc changer, Clarion DSP EQ/digital crossover/sub control, HiFonics 440 watt 4 channel amp, Infinity 6.5 components (to come) and a Kicker L5 8" sub (to come).
Should come in at around $1000 with all necesssary wiring and material to build the sub box if your DYI.

Message: I personally enjoy the Kappa series from Infinity. I have the 6.5 components installed with 6x9s (coaxials) in the rear doors all with an alpine deck.
Z-Tube, R/T Rims, SSB Rear Disc Conversion, Alpine Head-Unit, Infinity Kappa Speakers, SilverStar Headlights, HO Cams & Intake installed.
Got H.O. ?
