Subject: Thunderform Question IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys..Quick question. I have a thunderform and Im trying to upgrade my amp. Im trying to figure out how the subs are wired (parallel or series) also what kind of ohm rating there is.
There is only a single positive and a single negative feed on the box so Ill assume that it is wired in series(not sure)..If these MTX 6000 subs are 4 ohms a piece would that mean that it is drawing an 8 ohm load? a 4 ohm load? or a 2 ohm load?
Thanks

Message: Just checked their site.
They claim that the box has an impedance of 4 ohms..So I assume these are 8 ohm subs..
Make sense?

Message: There should be two 8 Ohm woofers (Thunder 6000s) in a loaded Thunderform wired in parallel presenting a 4 Ohm mono load.
That's where the 4 Ohms comes from.

Message: Just about any decent amp should push a 4 Ohm load just fine... Not a really big deal.
How much money you got to spend is probably gonna be the thing that determines what you can get.
I would recommend any amp that can push at least 300 watts RMS at a 4 Ohm load. That would be plenty of power to make your speakers pound.
Now you can get by with less but my logic is... it is better to have "too much" power on hand and turn the gains down than to have too little power which could lead to distortion and ultimately damage your speakers...
Good luck...
