Subject: Navigation system IP: Logged
Message: Ok! Has anyone have a navigation system installed in a vehicle? Do you like it? Is it worth it? What brand is it? I know Alpine makes one do any other companies?
I am skeing this cause next october my then to be new wife and I will be driving around the western states ie. washington, oregon, california, arizona, nevada, idaho and neither of us have been in those areas and would hate to get lost in the wrong area, and I figure that a nav setup would best help out the situation to make it alot easier at getting around.

I looked into these a while back, but unfortunately didn't keep any links. I opted not to go with an onboard navigation system after reading a couple reviews on them.
I remember one review about the Alpine (not sure which model) that mentioned the Alpine was severely lacking in regards to local data (hospitals, restaurants, etc.) as well as not having quite a few major roads on it.
I just looked for other brands quickly and Crutchfiled carries the Kenwood KNA-DV2100 for $2199. I didn't look for any reviews.
If you're looking for a much less expensive alternative, I highly recommend Garmin's GPS systems (www.garmin.com) My wife and I have a Garmin eMap (garmin eMap and we are very happy with it. We have used it all over New England and it has proven to be very accurate, full of detail and easily links to the GPS satellite.
The top of the line Garmin street guide is the StreetPilot 3 (Garmin StreetPilot 3) and these can be found on eBay for under $700.
