Subject: is my amp big enough IP: Logged
Message: I have a pioneer amp that is rated at 300w x 1 @4 ohm continuous. would this be big enough to run a 10" orion xtr sub? Also i was going to build a sealed box for the sub but i don't know how big to build it. anyone have a rule of thumb for what size box to match a 10" sub. thanx for any help.

Message: I beleive that sub is only rated at 150 watts RMS , SO 300 will prolly blow it ! Around .8 - 1.0 cuft for the sub , But not positive

Message: Nah, stick it on there. Orion subs love power, and they are very hard to blow. I had two XTR 12's on my memphis 1000D (yes each sub would receive 500 watts at times!) and I never had any problems. Plus pioneer stuff is overrated a little, so I'm sure you'll be fine. just listen for distortion if your amp starts to clip or somethin. Yeah i think those subs like about what joe said.

Message: only way those subs are gonna blow if you put that amp on there is if you have your gain on your deck and on your amp all the way full.. so put it on and see what happens.. you might be surprised.. and yea theese fellas are correct.. those are good .cuft for a sealed box.. if it was ported it would be alittle more but who cares eh..lol
and as far as your memphis amp goes puttin 500 to each like before only way they put 500 to each is if they are at full gain.. :) just something for yas to chew on..lol

Message: Yeah, which is why i said at times. Only when i wanted to really pound did I turn the gain up (handy dash mounted gain control). It doesn't have to be at full gain, the input voltage just has to be high enough to maximize the amp at what gain setting it's at.
