i recently bought the thunderform with the 10 inch subs alrady in it. a friend of mine gave me one of his amps. i went to the local car stereo shop and they tried to install it but said the amp didnt fit under the seat. is this true? it looks like a tight squeeze. if i add washers to the bolts on the seat and lift the seat up about 1/2 an inch, will it fit then?

in most cases yes...but it all depends on the dimensions of the amp...

depending on how creative you want to get. you could install it in the rear behind one of the side panels. it you remove those panels theres alot of room back there. you will have to trim some metal though and it will be hard to get too.

but hay you have to remove them to install the thunderform so take a look.

other ideas center console, glove box. or raise the floor were the amp goes.

What kind of amp do you have dakslt??? Being your name is dakSLT I'm assuming you have an SLT with power seats. I've never seen under a power seat, but you probably won't have room to fit a large amp under there. Yes you can cheat a little height out of seat by raising it up with washers. If you want to do that try sitting in the seat at the new height before you make it permanent and see if you like it, some people have complained that raising the seat too much starts to feel weird sitting in it. I would do whatever you can do to avoid mounting an amp behind the rear pannels, it would be quite the task getting to it to adjust it or whatever. Also there is probably too much of a lack of ventilation back there too. If you absolutely must mount it behind the rear pannels, definately think about going with a Class D sub amp, they run much cooler and usually have a smaller footprint than larger linear amps with the same power rating.

had the same problem. i started out with a rockford fosgate punch 250 powering two mtx 10's and i had it under the seat. then i went to the 800 and it was two big to fit under the seat. so i cut the vinyl back rest on the rear seat with an open space to fit the 800. then placed 3/4 plywood and painted it black so its now flush with the vinyl. and mounted the amp on the plywood. and it actually looks pretty good. give you a pic if ya want it.

trying to solve the same prob. now also.

removed everything in the '98 dak clubcab, wanted to mount the amp under the seat but its just not high enough, have a Pyle PL305...

the seat mounts aren't flat you can put washers under the rear mounts, but the front mounts turn down not quite 90 degrees, so if you put washers there that moves the seat forward and the rears don't line up.. i guess i'm gonne have to make some custom brackets for the front, only raising the rear doesn't give us enough room either.. or mount the amp on the back cab wall..

Sure you can use washers under the rear mounts, lots of people have. They just have to have a larger outer diameter than the width of the seat bracket, and painting them black woulddn't be a bad idea either.

That will effectively raise the rear of the seat up/forward...

The upright part of the seatback is adjustable, but the cusion part is not... I don't know about others but a small adjustment, in cars that have 6way adjustable seats, makes a big difference in ride comfort for the person.. I want to raise the front of the seat equally with the back, or maybe who cares its just the passenger.

Hey Eustisva,
How did your two mtx's sound with the punch 250? Were they in a T-form box. I am getting a Thunderform with the mtx 6000's in it but I'm not sure if my Punch 250 will be enough to push them. I might have to buy a bigger amp. What do you think?

i'm running a 500 watt 2 channel punch and it fits under my drivers seat just fine. It's even on a 1/4 inch thick piece of wood drilled into the floor.

I don't know, they should only make 1 500 watt 2 channel? I was told that you shouldnt bridge punch amps? It messes with the ohm settings making the bass hit higher then it should.

Just a couple days ago, I installed my MTX Thunderform in my dakota. I got the loaded version with the Two MTX Thunder 6000s. Got a great deal with Jona at premier automotive. The enclosure install was really simple. I'm using the MTX Thunder 6500D amp that fit just perfectly under the drivers seat. I had the amp and wiring put in professionally and they did a wonderful job. In order for them to fit the amp under the seat they removed the seat, then placed the amp.
Gosh, that amp really has alot of power, those speakers hit really well. The system sounds fantastic. I honestly didn't think it would sound this great and the best thing about it is that you can't tell that I have a system in my truck by just looking at, since the amp is under the seat and the speakers are covered with the seats.
Well good luck with your setup I hope everything turns out great.

yea, that's the amp. The only thing I don't understand is the cross-over frequency. It goes from 50 to 190 or something. It was on 50 and I turned it all the way up to 190 and I Swear it hits a little bit harder.

Chris,
I guess that would be beacause when you turn the X-over freq up, you're no longer putting all that power into the low low bass, has more power available for higher bass, which is more punchy. LOL, maybe I don't konw what the hell I'm talking about, but it seems logical and makes sense electrically. I know what your talking about though. I used to notice the same thing in my old car. And yea, the MTX 6500D is a great amp for a T-form in a Dak; it has nice power and fits nicely under the seat.

I think MTX amps are the way to go. I just finished installing an MTX Thunder4250D amp under the passenger seat, an MTX Thunder 6304 amp under the drivers seat. Needed a couple washers on the back of the drivers seat, but unnoticeable. I got the 4250D going to a loaded thunderform, and the 6304 going to infinity reference 652i's all around. And the whole thing being controlled by a Pioneer deh-p77dh. oh and I also got an MTX bass control knob under the driver seat in easy reach. The whole thing sounds sweet.

You have almost the same set-up as I do. I'm running the 4250D to the T-form with the EBC control. I have the know mounted in the top "cup" of the center console (the big console that comes with the bucket seats.) Its real low profile and in easy reach. I'm running the 4244 though as my 4ch, it does well.
