Subject: Tear out or not?? IP: Logged
Message: well, I have all my hardware and plan to install my system this weekend but I need some advice. I am installing a tform, 2 amps, 1f-cap, component set, blocks etc. I am going to mount my amps under the seat, haven't figured out where I'm putting my cap but anyhow ... should I just tear out the front seats, center console, back seats and carpet (my deck is installed and I ran the rca's earlier so I wont need to pull the dash) OR can I get away with just taking out the seats and fishing the wire next to the door?? Also, if you say I need to pull my carpet up is there anything I should look out for so that I can get everything back in nice and snug? For instance, do they use those crappy once only plastic snap things or no? Thanks a TON!
And hey, has anyone had any probs w/ mounting a cap in the engine bay? .. I'm assuming moisture is no good so I may try to get it behind my dash on the inside but figured I'd ask.
thanks a hellova' lot!

Message: Its possible, in a '98 Dak, to run the wires under the carpet at the door edges without removing the seats...
Run the RCA'a and the power as far away from each other as possible, oppisite sides of the seat or cab.
Put a fuse/circuit breaker as close to the battery positive, and the cap as close to the amps as possible. In the engine compartment the heat will get the cap before the moisture, unless you're an off roader.

Message: I have a 00' R/T cc bro ... thanks for the tip on the rca's/power wire separation. I'll be happy if I just have to take the seats out to get everything in, my luck I'll have to take it all out. Ok, I'll try to fit my cap inside then, anyone else have any tips?
thanks!

Message: Gut everything...it will make the install a heck of a lot easier...plus you'll have to take out the seats to mount the amp anyhow...I started out without taking anything out and then ended up taking out everything...the bolts on the seats go through the body so they might be somewhat junked up underneath so get under there and spray them with some silicon spray...helps a lot!

Message: For sure, unbolt the seats to mount amps. In my 2000 Durango, I used a coat hanger to run the cables. I ran the power wire along the door jam under the plastic trim. With the seats unbolted and slid back, I cut a slot in the carpet where the wires would come out. I then pushed the coat hanger in the hole and down towards the door jam while I ran my hand under the carpet at the door to lift the carpet and catch the coat hanger. I then fastened the wire to the hanger and pulled it back through. By removing the seats and console the carpet can be lifted enough to get the hanger ran quite simply.

Message: I just installed a pair of custom boxes with Rockford 8's behind my rear seats in my '02 Quad Cab. I ripped out the drivers seat and center console and ran the power cable down the door jam, and the RCA's down the center. I placed the amp under the drivers seat, and will mount it there some time in the future.
Sad thing is, I forgot my camera, so I could not take any pictures. But I will have to take it all back out next spring so I can put down Dynamat. Hope I remember my camera then.. :)
It was easier to just remove everything, and it was all bolted down, no plastic clips... so it's all still tight.
good luck figitdotcom.
