copy and past the link above and let me know what you think. they are both prospective designs for boxes I would like to build for my truck to to try anmaximize space and still get a quality sound
on the first pic it may be hard to read but the words say sideways fireing sub with 4 sided baffle open on bottom. this is to attempt to have the sound waves directed downward kinda like a real big port. or would it sound bad with a grille to either the passenger or drivers side? or would the baffle loose base.
the second one I don't think I will be able to make work because of size but all opinions are appreciated. I'm told haveing subs downward fireing has the best sound quality but have never tried this setup.
right now I have an rt engineering box ontop of the back seat. the subs are xtant x series 12's with a single alpine 1507 amp.

Message: The second design is better. You might try facing the sub at a downward angle. The is known as a "downfire" box. You might also try running only one of those subs and making a ported box with sub and port facing back.

Message: based on size requirements the 2nd box design is probable out. what I'm gonna do is use 1 box I already have to make 2 boxes because these boxes are at a minimum of arespace for my subs.
do you think the baffle is a good idea or should I use a grille? should I make the baffle 4 sided or just have a board with room for sound to travel out for sides?
all help appreciated.

Message: The baffle idea isn't really all that bad but you have to take into acount your using room that you could have used for airspace for the sub. The baffle will however reflect the soundwaves and maintain pressure on the sub for more cone control and less likelyhood of overexcursion/bottoming out.

Message: true but will the added airspace be all that more beneficial to the lack of imaging from haveing the sub just turned sideways?
or am I totally confused and should say f$#@ the rear seat and just leave my 2 12's on the back seat. lol
