I need to replace my interiors and I was wondering if there are any component sets that sound good but aren't over 200 bucks, since I'm only 17 and don't exactly have sh*t loads of cash...and also what are some good 6 3/4" speakers for the rear? Anything would help!

Mb Quart, diamond audio, i even like polk audio. Any component set will sound better then factory or coax but I'd recomend running the components off a small amp. You'd be amazed how much louder and clearer they'll sound. Not to mention you can use the crossovers on the amp.

I forgot to mention I would be running them off of the MTX4244 4-channel amp....I think it's 45 per channel rms...plus the 60peak per channel from the deck

Save your money and get the good "stuff" the first time. A lesson I learned the hard way when I was 17. I like JBL GTI's and Infinty Kappa perfect's. Just my 2 cents

I havent replaced speakers in my dak, yet... But I installed Polk in my wife's avenger, think the doors are the same size as our daks, anyway I am pretty happy with them, even with out an amp. An amp would boost the quality level, barring you purchase a good set. IMO, save a couple bucks, and purchase a quality set, stay away from pioneers, some sony's, and flip a bill on a good set. I had Kickers before, and they sounded awesome as well. This may sound stupid, but make sure your set comes with crossovers to protect your tweeters. I have seen some cheaper brands sell comp. sets with out 'em. You can even try Crutchfield.com, and speak with one of their reps. I have dealt with them for years and have yet to be disatisfied. Good luck, and let us know what you choose.

What does anyone think of Alpine? at the end of January crutchfield will be stocking a set of new Alpine Type-S speaker...the Alpine SPS-170A's...if you look at the specs it "out-performs" the current Type-R's...and they're cheaper too...those would be for the rear...I haven't really found any components that I like in my price range yet for the front

Ummmm.....One quick question. Why did you say "I think it's 45 per channel rms...plus the 60peak per channel from the deck" ??? I am assuming that since you have a four-channel amp, you will be running it to all your speakers (one channel to each speaker). You do know that if you do that, you won't be getting any power from your deck. When you use the pre-amp outputs, that's exactly what it does--it bypasses the internal amp from your deck. But that's just the way I read it, let me know if you meant something else.

But honestly, the amp you have isn't going to drive any good component set to its fullest potential. (Well, not off 4 channels) if I were you, I would bridge it to drive just the front components, and go another route for the rear.

As for brands, I have Focal Polykevlar components taking 100 watts RMS from a Rockford 800a4 and they are the best I have ever heard. I got a killer deal on them for $250. If their other lines sound half as good, then I would go for it.

I never really thought about that...so if I connected the amp using the speaker line inputs rather than a set of rca's I would be getting whatever the deck puts out plus whatever the amp pushes...or is that wrong too?

CJ, actually when you use your decks high level outputs the voltage is droped down to an amps usable input voltage which is usually about 2-4VAC. Always use your decks RCA's as long as you have them it will yield a cleaner signal.

As far as comps go you need to decide if you want metal(more precise but harder on the ears) or silk(softer but not as detailed) tweeters.

As far as brands, Rainbow, Focal, CDT all have lines under $200 and they will blow away all the Best Buy/Circuit City crap!!

Like I said focal.....access or polyglass. I guess you could be a sheep and buy MB's, kicker, alpine, or polk. Go listen and choose.

Whenever you use an aftermarket amp, you don't get any power from the deck. The pre-amps (RCAs) and speaker level inputs just get the music signal to the amp. Then the amp uses the signal to boost the power to whatever wattage it's rated at. The higher the voltage of your RCAs means a cleaner signal (less noise). Whenever you use speaker inputs (designed for people with no RCAs like stock decks) you get ALOT of noise. I just installed an amp to a stock Chevy CD player with speaker inputs, and the noise is terrible.

But as far as speakers go, people can't tell you what you will like. They are just telling you their opinions. You need to go to all your local audio shops and listen to everything. I've heard an $800 set of components that honestly sound like sh!t to me. You are the one who is going to be listening to them, so get something you will be happy with. Also, the smaller shops have the better sounding stuff than Circuit City or Best Buy and such. But don't rule them out. You can take all the brands that people have mentioned and check their website to see if they have a distributor in your area. Then if you hear something you like, buy it off ebay if you can. I saved at least 3 grand by buying all my stuff off there.

Good luck.
