 Subject: why a box with an inverted sub?mag out

For those of you audio philes. why do you see boxes with the subs mounted with the magnet outside the box? Is this for show sq or spl? can this be done with a sealed box, I would assume you would have to have a ported one.
I love the look of this kind of box but don't know weither or not it would be benificial in my cc.
also has anyone incorpurated 2 12's into a box in place of the center console?

and to save on room, i decided to invert mine so that my box will be smaller by a bit and wont go as high up the window. that way the subs can go behind each seat inverted and look cool too...

It is mainly for show. You get to see the magnet and basket. It could also be to cut down on box volume as you don't have any driver displacement which gains in the neighborhood of .01 It won't help SQ a bit and will hurt SPL a little as the basket and magnet block the cone. Can be done with sealed, ported, bandpass boxes. Keep in mind when hooking it up to reverse the phase though.

only neccesarry if you have a mix of inverted and regular mounted drivers. two inverted can be wired the same as normal, where if one is inverted and one normal, you should switch the polarity of the inverted sub....

what do you mean by switch the polarity? do you mean switching the wires on the sub itself or by changein g the phase on the amp.

on the sub, just taking the + from the amp and putting it to the - on the sub, and - on amp to + on sub......
