Subject: Running radio when car is off IP: Logged
Message: I recently installed an Alpine HU, JL audio 500/1 amp, and two Image Dynamic IDQ's in my dakota, and I went snowboarding and like to play music when getting ready, eating lunch, etc. Anyways, is my battery going to get drained by the amp when running the radio when engine is not on? Also, what if I turn subs off? Thanks for your help!

Message: It took about 4 hours to drain the battery in my truck while I was at the Drive-In. My setup was:
A head unit - 10 amps
door speaker amp, 50Wx4, 30 amps.
sub amp, 450W, 30 amps.
It was running pretty loud the entire time - I had to puch start the truck.
The battery will eventually get drained, but it should charge back up once you run the engine.

Message: lol i run a a/b class 1000 watt amp for my digital designs and an extremely power hungry 225x2 for my fronts. and i've done it on a very new battery...we got about 45 mins and the truck wouldnt start. depends on the equiptment... keep in mind that a amplifiers like that require a massive ammount of power for instance my setup is about 70 amps.........70 amps is a little less than half of the total current a small HOUSE would pull...

Message: 1,000 pyramid amp? I don't think so, they are junk you'll be lucky to get 500 watts out it. Your money would be better spent on a smaller amp that puts out REAL power. There is a reason why good amps cost more $

Message: With stereo stuff, you get what you pay for. There is a reason why the high end stuff costs so much more. Stick with the more well known names, or ask a local stereo shop. Depending on the specs of the alternaotr, and how they advertise, the 1000W might be peak output under ideal conditions, not sustained output. Also, unless you buy subs that can handle that much power, no point in buying an amp that will do it. A good RF(rockford fosgate) 300W amp will sound a lot better than that Pyramid 1000W amp.
