Subject: Question about Amp IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 1999 Yellow Dakota and I blew one of the factory speakers. I'm thinking of getting an Alpine component set of speakers that's 40W RMS and I'm also putting in a new cd player. Its an Alpine with a 50W x 4 internal amp. Now do I need a separate amp to run the component speakers? Or can I just run the speakers off the Alpine head unit? The amp I'm thinking of getting is 90W x 2 and it costs around $100.
If anybody knows what would be best to do, let me know.

Message: i would get an amp for a component set they would sound a lot better. the 50x4 on the head unit is peak power and is more like in the area of 20 rms. It would put a lot of strain on the head unit to power a component set.

Message: Ok thanks, now will the 90W x 2 amp be powerful enough? I want good bass in my truck without having to buy a sub. I listened to the Alpine component set in a car audio store and they sound pretty good. Do you think that it will have pretty good bass without a sub since I'll have the amp too?

Message: Be careful not to blow your speakers. If your comp. set is 40w RMS and you have a 90w RMS amp hooked up to them...you can blow them, that is if you are not careful. I always try to match up the RMS's from the speakers to the amp. Good luck.

Message: you won't blow them on 90 watts. the more power they get the better they sound. You turn the amps volume up and keep head units volume down. 90 watts will work great. i have 75 and it is good. my buddy has same speakers and almost same amp just more powerful and it sounds a lot better. he has 1200 watts just doesn't crank amp all the way. just cause you haqve the power doesn't mean it will blow speakers. you just have to keep the volume levels at a reasonable amount. if they distort turn it down. if u want a good inexpensive amp go to hypaudio.com and look at the JBL 150.2 or 80.2 i think it is like 80 bucks for the 80.2 and 125 for the 150.2. now about the bass. they have a little but it doesn't compare to a sub. the crossovers usually don't give the mids deep low freq. but it is a large improvement on factory stereo bass.

Message: Ok I got one more question. Would the bass in the Alpine component speakers be better than what I already have in my truck, which is the Infinity system speakers with the two tweeters. Cause the Infinity speakers had pretty good bass for just running off the factory cd player. As long as the Alpine ones have just as much bass or more than the Infinity ones I'll be satisfied. Cause all together I'm spending around $500 for the cd player, component speakers and amp. I just wondered if anybody could compare the Alpine component to the factory Infinity speakers.
Thanks
