Subject: Headunit/amp question... IP: Logged
Message: Just bought JL Audio XR650-CS/CXi series speakers for the front and back of my 01 CC with infinity premium system. So i have a decent Alpine CDA-7843 deck just laying around. If i get the factory wiring harness adapter for the alpine, would that A. work with the factory infinity amp, B. be much of an improvement over stock deck or C. Not sound as good as if i used just the alpine's internal amp to run the speakers. Are the factory amps wired for high level input, or is there a special connector for low pass from the factory deck? Please advise, my speakers should arrive any day now! i'm stoked!

Message: Does that alpine model have the V-drive internal amp? If so, it is better than the stock. The stock deck uses high level inputs, but it's not that powerful. I'd say that the alpine has better sound quality than the factory, even if it has less power. I'd say switch the deck and then expereiment to find what's best. I rarely hear of people that reuse the factory amp, I guess it depends how nice the alpine is. With those nice comp. speakers it's a no-brainer. Get an amp. Screw the factory everything. I also have components, and it's nice that the factory gave us a great spot to put the tweet and still look factory. Good luck
