Well my wait is finally over! Today I had my new Alpine CDA-7998 receiver, my Rockford 750x and my Focal 165K2's put in my truck. It is a 2002 4X4 CC 4.7L. I also have the Focal 165V's in the back walls. The install took almost 7 hours, but it was worth it. Now I just have to wait till early spring and I am getting two Rockford bd1500's and four JL 12W7's and my system will be complete. Tell me what you guys think of this set-up, it sounds so clean and is way loud!!

Keep thumpin

I have a forum on this board because i was wanting to put 4 12's in my truck, some guy said that 3 12's seem to cancel each other out,so i might just keep 2,but if you go 4 12's let me know how you like it.I figured the w7's where the top of the line.

Man, 750 watts for your regular speakers?!?

3 Subs will not cancel each other out as long as they are wired in phase.

They are regular speakers, they are Focal componets, and it sounds really nice, As for three subs not sounding better than 2 they just need more power and a box that has the right volume for each sub, and be in phase. You won't be able to wire a 2 channel amp for 3 or 4 subs, I wouldn't put more that 2 to an amp, plus (I don't know what amp it is) but it wouldn't be stable down to that low an ohmn load and power all 3 or 4 subs. I would try either finding another same amp, or getting a couple mono sub amps. You will also have to upgrade the stock electric system to supply the power and handle the strain of the system. I will let you know how the subs sound when they are in

Sounds like a good install so far. 3 subs won't cancel each other out unless you build a screwed up box but you can have 2 subs and still have cancellation. For that matter you can have cancellation with a single sub... You can wire 3 or 4 subs off one amp under the right circumstances. If you amp is one ohm stable just run all 3/4 of them in parallel. If it isn't you can use 4 subs and series a pair of speakers and then parallel the pairs to give you a 4 ohm load. Or if they are DVC's, with dual 4's you could series the coils, then parallel a pair of subs, and then parallel the pairs to give you a 2 ohm load. It's all dependant on the subs and amps you use.

Hey Andrew...well sounds like your going to need more juice if you want four JLW7s man. With a sub like you will want atleast around 1200-1500 watts per speaker. If you stick 2 bd1500s on 4 JLW7s, it is just going to be a waste of money on the 2 extra JLW7s. Take this advice from someone that helped someone put in a system with basically the exact same setup. The setup was 4 JLW7s in the back of a Navi with about 800 going to each. Get more juice man.

I think with the 3 ohmn subs wired in parallel it will give the amp a 1.5 ohmn load, and that will give me 750 per speaker easy will be ok. My truck is way smaller inside than a Navigator? right? and the reduction in air space should give me at least 6db more then a navi interior, but I may also add another amp down the road anyways, so thanks for the heads up.

Hey,

For the guys with componet speakers in you rear, and have subs, can you still hear them at all? I was thinking when I put the 4 12's back there, I am going to cover them up so I wanted to move them to the back top corners of the cab, like a reverse kick-pannel set-up. Has anybody tried this set up, and did it sound good?

Thanks

Andrew

Definately look into Brahmas.

If not Brahmas, then you can go with 3 or 4 Shivas.

Look on the car installs page. I am BigVinny with the Tempests. I no longer have them because of theft, but they sounded unbelievable.

there is no way you can get the correct airspace for 4 w7s in there. unless you sealed off the bed and used it somehow. have you ever heard 1 w7? anymore than that is a waste of money. i have 1 12"solo baric l7 in my trcuck and it is so loud. you would not be able to stand 4 w7s. it would cost you around 8 grand in subs and amps alone. good luck doin it, but its gonna cost you a crap load of money and time tryin to find a way not to have it sound like crap. you wont even be able to hear any vocals unless you have on headphones.

I haven't heard one yet, but I am going to take a listen the next time I am at my local shop. I was a tad worried that 4 might not fit, but I could do 2-3 ok, I think I may do 3 if 4 dosen't fit. I know a guy that has like 8 xtants in the back of his ram, but I am not sure if the back cab demensions are the same in the Dakota. As for the cost, I can get 4 subs and three amps for a little over $3,000 so that isn't a problem, fitting them might though..

Thanks,

Andrew

theres not much info at all on the barahmas on that website. couldn't find many specs.

for you audiophiles whats the point in mounting a sub backwards? ie magnet outside the enclosure. Can you do this with a sealed enclosure? I tried it once for a minute but with a sealed enclosure I was woried about damageing my sub. has anyone ever seen a setup where someone used 2 boxs one sealed and one ported?

can this actually move more air than useing the serface area of the cone.

Dude, you are INSANE !!! I wouldn't even THINK about 4 W7s. I think you would definately have to worry about your windows--no joke. I have two W6v2s and they are pretty loud. Not loud enough for me, but it definately makes jaws drop. But I heard just 2 w7s in the JL Acura RSX, and it was loud. Think about it--all the other manufacturers put like 8 or 10 subs in their show cars. JL has TWO W7s !!! I hope you added a sh!t load of Dynamat to your budget, because your truck is definately going to rattle something fierce.

Good choice with the Focals, that's what I have in mine. If it were me though, I wouldn't go with tweeters in the rear, it's going to mess with your sound imaging. Besides, with all the bass you will have, and all the sound the 165K2s will put out in front, you just won't need them. I have Kicker Resolution midranges/midbasses in the back and I love the way it sounds.

Anyways, good luck.

Hey phatdak,

Like I said, I haven't heard the w7 yet, the bet I have heard so far was a guy with 8 fosgate 10's and not a huge amount of amp power. I don't even know if the 4 will fit yet, but that is what I am shooting for. What amp(s) do you have on your w6's? And do you know the spl of them? My cavilier had 2 fosgate he 12's with 630 watts to them and it was hitting 139 in a crappy q-logic bandpass box and I could see the windshield move some then! I almost think I might try 3 of the 13w7's and see if that fits and utilizes all of my amp power better, those are some pricy subs thouht!!!

Any of you guys from Michigan by the way? just wondering,

peace!

Andrew

I've got a Rockford Power 800a2 to the subs. It pushes them at 400 watts rms @ 2 ohms. I have them downfiring in a box that I built myself to the proper specs. One thing that you may have to worry about isn't just fitting the subs in there. Those things need A LOT of air space. On top of the fact that they are about a foot deep. If it were me, I would go with 2 13.5s. But it's your truck. Also, I would find someone with those subs in a truck or car and listen to them. That would be better than going to a distributor and hearing them in their sound rooms.

Hey phatdak, I would also like to see how your system looks as well. I want to get ideas about how to build the box. I have some pics of my install that are on film and as soon as I get them on cd, I will put them up.
