Message: that's called 'bridging'.....you connect one side to the + on channel one and the other to the - on channel two........it's probably marked on the amp where to wire it up.......

Message: nooooo.......some 4 channel amps can be bridged into 2 separate channels that can see a 4 ohm load each. i have had a few amps that have done this. one amp was a jensen xa4150, i bridged 2 of the channels into one to power a sub, and powered reg. 6x9's w/ the other 2 channels.........

Message: not to mention, if you bought a sub with dual 4 ohm voice coils, you could just hook one channel to each voice coil and that would work too......

Message: madmaxin22= i was reading about wiring DVC subs and read that the 2 coils MUST be connected to the same channel. Is this correct? I have a Clarion 250wrms, dual 4ohm voice coil sub and a Super Sound KA4000 amp. The amps supposed to be "specs:
Max power output - 400 watts
Frequency response - 15hz - 30khz
Load impedance - min 2 ohms
S/n ratio - 80 db
Low level RCA inputs - 23mv
High level line input - 320mv
Power requirements - 12v"
Has anybody here seen these amps? It didnt come with any instructions and i need to know if i can run the sub (maybe 2 channels to that) and the other 2 channels to 6x9's. Any help would be great! Craig Johnson

Message: Pesonally, I would get a smaller 2 ch. amp for the fronts, and a higher wattage mono amp for the sub(s). I've had a few setups, and this worked best for me. I went from a 1000w 2ch. amp to a 900w mono amp for 2 10" subs, and it hits much harder. Using the same amp for the fronts and subs usually means you're either over-powering your speakers, or really underpowering your sub(which can end up hurting it worse than over-powering it). Also, wiring two subs to a mono channel amp will make your 4 ohm subs present a 2 ohm load, which means more power available.

Message: hi 2fknlo, i read somewhere that 'underpower' speakers is bad, is it called 'clipping' when u crank it up? Anyways, i was thinking that bridgin 2 channels to the sub, and using the others for the 6x9's, would prevent this. either that, or i run the 6x9's off the headunit (might be a bit under powered, their pretty good pioners (spell?). Or, if i bridge the amp to 2 channels, 200w to the sub, and connect the 6x9's in series, that should do it shouldnt it? They would prob be 2ohms from the 6x9s which would make them have alot of power. Also, how do i connect up the dual voice coil sub? Thanks for your help.

Message: Toss that junk amp and get a real one... you'll thank me later because an S/N of 80dB is going to sound like crap. No way it puts out 400 watts either.
As for hooking it up, not all amps are bridgeable like that and just because it's stable into 2 ohms I highly doubt it will handle that load when bridged. If you have no insructions your just guessing... guess right and it might work for awhile (before overheating), guess wrong and the amp will blown instantly. And yes underpowering the speakers will cause the amp to "clip" which is a bad thing.
My 4 channel amp is running stereo on the front channels at 4 ohms (55 watts X 2) and the rear channels are bridged (220 watts X 1) to a single 2 ohm DVC sub wired in series (thus 4 ohms). It pretty much gives you the most bang-for-the-buck. See my website linked below for pictures and more info.
Do yourself a favor and ditch the 6x9s too, instead get a set of components, they'll sound so much better!

Message: JMII, I'm not looking for the loudest car in history, just something that has good sound and some good clean bass. i realise the amp might not put out 400w, i was thinking more like 4x75. And the 6x9's, my brother has the next model down from mine, and i thought they sound great! 330wpoineers, 80something nominal. Any ways, is there anyway i could find out if this thing is 'bridgable'? like take the cover off, would there be anything that would tell me if it's able to do that? Also, i have a friend at school that has a friend who ran 1 of these amps, and he said hey work great. But he threw out his instructions as well! I found 1 of these for sale on ebay, and under the heading was '2/4 channel 400w amp'. If this means i can only ran 2 or 4 channels, could i ran the 6x9's in series? what would that be like?
